Ok, here some ballpark figures from http://www.jimsautoupholstery.com/.
Option 1- At $150 Jim’s could do something similar to what flu posted. If that was an option for me I would gladly pay them to do a half decent job of that rather than the hack job i would end up doing. Unfortunately, it’s not an option as there are about 5 or 6 tears in the vinyl around where the back window was.
Option 2- At $250 for installation only, Jim’s could install a new top on the existing frame. A new Robbins top (including rain rail) from gomiata.com currently runs at $519 ($580 including tax and shipping). So, all in I’m looking at $830 for a new top.
I also called http://www.yelp.com/biz/bernies-auto-upholstery-and-convertible-tops-lemon-grove
Option 3- Bernie’s said that if the zipper is still intacts (which it is) if I brought it in he could check if he has any backwindows parts which are an exact fit with the existing zipper. He quoted me $250 for that. But it seems hella unlikely to work out.
Option 4- Bernie’s quoted me $800 for a new top installed over the existing frame.
Anyways, I’ve survived 10 years without the back window, so maybe i’ll just leave it. only problem is i can no longer garage it all the time and with El Nino coming it might be a wet winter…
teaboyParticipantThanks for the tips!
I already cut out the old back window 10 years ago and have been mostly OK since it’s mostly garaged. Rest of roof is in OK condition.
I read that installing a full new roof onto an existing frame is a 6-8 hour job, which means a couple months for me π
Also, I see the back window only sections for sale. But not sure how easy these pop in.

I’ll try to look into these further and report back.

teaboyParticipantkev,
Emigrant is legit. I have used them to chase the highest savings rate for my $200k deposit while waiting to buy.
The thing to be aware of is that the 1.25% may not last too long nor still be competitive in 6 months.
If you have a 6 month horizon, it might be better to try everbank, as they seem to have an into rate of 1.6% for 6 months.
http://www.bankrate.com/funnel/savings/savings-results.aspx?local=false&IRA=false&prods=33&ic_id=CR_searchMMASavingsRates_checking_SeeallMMASavingsproductsI put my $200k into dollarsavingsdirect.com (another Emigrant bank) about 6-7 years ago and remember their rates being uncompetitive fairly soon thereafter.
Back then I had plenty of spare time at work and didnt mind all the hassle and effort required to open a new bank account and transfer the funds. I moved it again a couple more times, again chasing an extra .25%.
It’s worth remembering that an extra .25% on $200k works out to something like an extra measly $30 per month after tax. It wouldn’t be worth the hassle for me these days.

I’ve always wanted to have a go at shorting individual stocks but never had the balls to even bother to look into it.
But given that the Stock Market has historically risen 8% per year or whatever, isn’t shorting the market a mug’s game?

arv, not sure if I’m qualified to answer your question, but here’s my situation…
I have a 2200 Sqft SFH in PQ.
My dwelling coverage is 294,000 (which increased to $441,000, with ERC)my annual premium is $570 (I opted for a $10k deductible, the largest they offer.)
In my policy, the “Important Information Regarding your Coverage” section reads:
-Building code upgrade coverage not included
-Replacement cost on contents included
-Dwelling extended replacement cost (ERC) included – increases Coverage A limit to $441,000
-$18,000 mortgage payment protection includedhow does that compare to your coverage?

teaboyParticipantSorry, but this seems less straightforward to me.
If I’m driving and a cop pulls me over and asks me if I’ve been drinking, I’m not going to plead the fifth, I’m going to tell him “no , I’ve not been drinking”. It’s just not as simple as ‘don’t ever talk to the cops’. I value my time and don’t want to create trouble for myself when a few simple polite words are more likely to get me back on my way.

October 1, 2013 Urban Word of the Day: congressing
Wasting time and energy. Being generally unproductive even though you have a lot of very important stuff to do.
Say your light bill is due by 5:00 PM or they’re going to turn off your power. A friend comes by at 4:30 PM and sees you napping.. He’d say, “Dude, you better quit congressing and pay your power bill.”Or… you’re just hanging out on Sunday morning and a friend calls and asks what you’re doing. You’d reply, “Nothing man, I’m just congressing.”

Random WordDecember 20, 2012 at 2:29 PM in reply to: OT: How hard is it to file a small claims court case? #756692teaboyParticipantI have also heard that it’s nigh on impossible to actually enforce judgements like that against private citizens…
Out of interest, what does “DMV pulled her license” mean? The lady presumably will keep her physical license (and can continue to use it for, say, ID purposes), so it’s only a problem if she’s driving and pulled over by a cop. Right?
If she’s driving without insurance already, what’s the diff with driving without a license, too?The difficulty in actually enforcing the small claims court judgement is the main thing which would ever stop me spending the time and effort to take someone to small claims, so I’m interested to hear more about getting the DMV to “pull” someone’s license…
Can I call SDGE and get them to “pull” their utilities, too? πtb
