When they want warm they venture to FLA and the Carribean not CA and HI. SD is still a jewel hidden from the eyes from many people. We were in SD a few week’s ago sorting out schools for the kids and looking at possible properties to rent for when we arrive in August. We also spoke to many relatively new immigrants who were all pretty upbeat. I guess it’s all a question of where you came from and why you left.

Well CB I dont really know you but as someone about to make the biggest decision I have ever made by moving countries all I can say is best of luck in your new home.

What concerns me quite a bit are all the relatively anti SD comments as a result of your post. We are selling up here in South Africa, leaving family and good friends behind to give our 3 young children a better life. After a number of visits to the USA we have chosen SD mainly for the weather and also for the large ex SA population in SD who have been very supportive. Reading the posts above starts giving us second thoughts!! Are we making a mistake??

Very interesting reading specially as someone moving to the USA, mores specifically SD in the next 5 months. We will be selling our house here in SA and be first time buyers in the USA.

From what I read here it appears that the best deal will be to wait for that possible 25% crater with possibly a concurrent increase in mortgage interest to say 10% and then buy for cash in CV or Del Mar? Make sense?

Having just arrived in about August we will rent first for a few months to get an understanding of the area,commute etc. While observing what’s happening in the market with a view to buying.
