ParticipantMy opinion? I like her. I like Bill also. I’m a liberal. I’m a democrat
And I also think she is PATHETIC to have stayed this long past her welcome.
And I think that even if she had won soundly in ALL state primaries, she would still be as DOOMED to lose against McCain!
The democratic party is even more PATHETIC to let her run, to think she is a candidate with any chance of making it to the White House. And don’t get me wrong; I’m ready and comfortable to vote for a woman for president, but not Hillary. She has never had what it takes to win the White House.
The Republicans are PRAYING she wins the democratic nomination, because she is THAT easily defeated. Why? Because she doesn’t inspire voters in the way her husband did and how Obama does, and because the Republicans need only succeed in raising her negative numbers a few points. They also have SO much material to work with to do that. Why do you think the Republicans have mostly held back attacking Hillary. They WANT her to win the nomination, obviously. There are even LOTS of rumors of many Republicans mustered their troops across many state primaries to temporarily switch parties and vote for Hillary, yet even that effort hasn’t put her ahead. Even her putting 10+ million of Bill’s speaking fee money into her campaign hasn’t helped either.
As for Obama, the Republican strategists are VERY worried about him winning, because they see a real risk that he could easily beat McCain.
A prediction: if Obama wins the nomination, then McCain’s goose is cooked. If Hillary wins (fat chance) then McCain makes it to the White House.

ParticipantMy opinion? This is more proof it is time to make easy money shorting the stock market. The only reason GDP hasn’t gone negative is that the country is running on fumes, and credit card borrowing.
The optimists (recession deniers) drove the S&P500 back up to 1420. OK, now all the smart people need do is short the market, and WAIT, wait until the economic data bursts the bubble of denial. That will send the markets tumbling down.
The big, nasty recession has started, and it will take the markets south. They fell 1.8% today. My puts are looking good, and I’m buying more.

ParticipantOne of my biggest pet peeves?
When exiting a commercial airliner, those RUDE people in rows behind you, who think that if they stand up microseconds before others and run up several rows, then that gives them the right to exit before people in the rows AHEAD of them.
Apparently those people FAILED to learn the basic manners the rest of us learned at FIVE years old when the school bus driver explained how to let others in front rows exit first.
You curious about my solution for those rude early-exiters on the plane?
I’m 6′ and 220 lbs. First I drop my laptop bag right in the aisle, so they would have to step over it to get past my row. If they step over it..
I get up and start moving into the aisle where they are standing, blocking my exit. I say “excuse me” and I look them in the eye letting them know if they don’t move, I WILL be standing up top of them in about one second.
They always move. Damn rude people.

ParticipantAs for McCarley, one story for you.
When we first saw her play, backed by band, in a coffee shop in San Diego…the place was packed standing room only with several hundred people. Before she came on stage, nobody was paying attention. The audience was all chatting noisily in various groups.
When she hit the first couple notes with her voice, everyone in the audience stopped talking and turned towards her, totally transfixed. It was as if, in that moment, nothing else mattered for that audience except listening to her sing.
When she paused between songs, everyone in the audience all spontaneously appeared to turn to nearby friends and say something along the lines of: “DAMN! She’s incredible. She’s going to be a national act and were gonna be bragging to our friends that we used to see her play coffee shops in San Diego.”
It was a feeling that we were all seeing a very exceptional performer, and we were of the lucky few to see her intimate coffee shop performances before she got discovered and went national, and put San Diego coffee shops far behind her.
