Out of curiosity, why do so many real estate bears feel that gold at 3x its 2001 price is a great investment, while real estate at 1.5x its 2001 price will continue to decline?
LOL good point. “Yeah honey, this house on the ocean is a shitty deal but lets buy some gold at a $1k an oz.”
Air and jf you ever heard about supply and demand? Remember when Greenspan started lowering interest rates and everyone thought RE was a good buy? At that same time people had no interest in gold as most at that point in time were seeing an upside potential in RE. 7 years ago we could see a long term picture of what was going to happen. Today we can’t even predict a year from now. That is pathetic and leads me to believe that housing poses a much greater risk from a investment perspective.

socratttParticipant
The end is nigh, repent. The sun will not stop shining, the water will more than likely not stop flowing and we will not wake up penniless in the land that our fore-fathers conquered.
We are however going to be a fair amount poorer overall, and those at the bottom end of the spectrum will take the brunt as they always do. Its good to prepare for contingencies, but if things get as bad as this thread intimates, you are going to need guns and salt, not gold.

Josh, there is chance that water could stop flowing. The infrastructure in this country that handles our water supply will soon have issues of its own as the west continues to feel the pain of a drought. Many will wake up penniless, don’t think that is not possible. As unemployment rises and the value of the dollar drops many will experience pain in this country. Think about the amount of people that live paycheck to paycheck in this country. If the job is gone and the price of goods continues to move up with inflation, I can only imagine what will occur in this country.
Do I live my life in fear? Of course not! Preparing for an earthquake is much different than preparing for a catastrophic economic event. I have a wife and child that I support along with a few family members that are currently struggling. I want to them to all be prepared for what could happen. I don’t have a clue what will happen, but I think the assumption that things will get harsh in this country is probably a safe assumption. Those that choose to ignore the facts will get blindsided, there is no doubt about that!

socratttParticipantBreeze you should frame your posts on your ceiling above your bed at home. When sales are down you can just look up at these many printouts next to your Obama signed photo, which is next to your Jimmy Carter signed photo and you will feel so much better!
A quick look back this week would have many people questioning if Obama really has any sense of leadership. We have already touched on the subject of Timothy Geithner, which I think we already all agree was a bad decision. How about that decision to reverse the ban on international funds to support abortion outside the US? Aren’t we in a recession, possible depression and our Presidents thinks it’s necessary to fund abortions outside the US. Let’s keep the spending up, what a brilliant idea. These bailout plans look great to all the irresponsible people that our Democratic government pushed with their affordable housing plans.
Obama wasn’t done yet. He really wanted to make sure that lobbyists weren’t able to involve themselves in politics anymore, so he signed the executive order only to later waive that order to allow former Raytheon lobbyist William Lynn to serve as his Deputy Secretary of Defense. Obama really is clueless and his inexperience is shining brightly.
We also have the great closing of GITMO. It will be really nice to have some of the worlds most successful terrorists here in Southern California. Maybe Obama will approve an autograph signing so that Breeze can put them on his ceiling as well. If you ever wanted to know how screwed up our system really is check this article out on a man that should have been publicly assassinated.
