Participant
I’m in the market for a portable AC unit this summer. Any suggestions on make/model? Anything I should be aware of? I’m weary about the exhaust bracket.. how airtight are those?
When I bought mine I researched a lot of brands. The Korean made units seem to be the highest rated (Sunpentown, LG, etc) but I have no experience using anything but the one I have now. The exhaust bracket on mine is about as airtight as it could be without doing some semi permanent installation. It’s basically a big piece of plastic that covers part of the window that the exhaust hose attaches to. I guess if you wanted to you could put weatherstripping around the cracks but with portable AC that’s probably the least of your problems.

ParticipantI have a Sunpentown 13,000 BTU portable AC unit with just exhaust hose. It intakes air from the sides of the unit (from the room) and recirculates it.
While I wouldn’t call it useless, it is not nearly as good as a window mount unit, especially if you are trying to cool an entire room down. I’ve tried using it in just my bedroom in 90 degree heat and it’s not able to cool the room down at all. You basically have to be ~5 ft or less in front of it to feel any of the cold air.
Not sure how much better it would be if I had a dual hose unit. But if you’re able to swing it a window mount AC is much much better than a portable AC unit.

ParticipantIt seems that the idea of a pure electric car is a step backwards, not forwards. I remember back in the late 90’s/early 2000’s a few companies tried to build electric cars (Saturn and Honda I believe) which eventually failed and gave way to hybrids. What exactly does Tesla think they can do differently to overcome the negative aspects of electric cars?
Also personally I think the Tesla roadster is ugly compared to it’s Lotus counterpart. No way I’d pay over 100k for one. Maybe I’d pay $20k at the most.
