More on Eminent Domain abuse and fighting back:
http://www.independent.org/events/transcript.asp?eventID=114
Abuse of Power—How the Government Misuses Eminent Domain
Steven Greenhut
Seven Locks Press 2004
http://prfamerica.org/bookreviews/BookReviewAbuseOfPower.html
A quote from Aristotle, “We make war that we may live in peace” introduces the last chapter. Greenhut notes that the first reaction to abuse is despair, but despair should not be allowed to last long. The key to success is to not feel overwhelmed by the powerful forces. Four main approaches that have yielded success are identified.
The first — community organizing,
the second — adopting a legal strategy,
the third — political,
the fourth revolves around the media! Some of the success stories are reviewed in detail, including:
“Illinois Stops One Stop Shopping,”
“California Dreaming,”
“The Constitution State Rediscovers the Constitution,”
“Colorado Supremes Slap Down Wal-Mart,”
“The Way From San Jose,”
“Atlantic City Officials Gambled and Lost.”Much is to be learned from these anecdotes. Greenhut concludes with the “Organizing ABCs” — Build Broad Coalitions, Go On the Offensive, and Be Positive, Not Just Reactive, Know What You Want to Do, Don’t Lose Sight of Principle, Keep It Simple.

SkyRanchOwnerParticipantWell, that is a tough one.
Yet, we can all show the San Diego County Board of Supervisors how we feel about it…
VOTE THEM OUT!!! (Except Diane Jacob)
They’ve been holding those offices way too long anyway. Time for some change.
FYI: “Ryan officials declined to comment, but an attorney representing the company argued at the meeting that the county had not met the legal requirements necessary to move ahead with eminent domain.”
I don’t know about you, but I’m getting tired of how the government, specifically this Board of Supervisors, seems like it can just push everyone around despite the popular or majority vote.
Sounds like this fight isn’t over…

Let’s make this a PR nightmare for the San Diego County Board of Supervisors!!
This is an obvious abuse of eminent domain for all to see.
On a side note, either way, homes are still selling up here! For those of you that haven’t come up to Sky Ranch, it’s worth a drive through. Everyone I know that lives up here has been extremely happy, and as far as prices, they have come way down from 3 years ago. It’s about supply and demand, and if there is enough demand for new homes in a unique community, the prices will hold! This is the nicest new development in East County, so I think that will keep the demand high.

SkyRanchOwnerParticipantPrivate elementary schools in East County are much less than the private schools in La Jolla and Del Mar. Out East for a regular elementary private school you would be looking at $300-$400 per month.
If they are highschool age, then kids mostly go to private schools outside of the area. Catholic schools like Saints (all boys), OLP (all girls), or Cathedral (coed). These 3 all cost around $10,000 to $11,000 per year. So, about $1,000 per month.
It all depends on the age of your kids Scarlett.
In my opinion, private school education is much tougher than public school. Kids get much more homework and are more challenged in the private schools. It’s actually more important to get kids into private schools earlier, so they become accustomed to lots of homework. If they transition to a public high school from there, they will be at a much better educational level.
The current problem with public schools is the “no child left behind”. Most teachers now spend more time bringing up the challenged kids than helping the best ones excel more. Plus, you can’t celebrate Christmas, Easter, possibly Halloween, and other standard traditions in public schools because they offend someone/somewhere. Feel free to ask any teacher in a San Diego public school and they will tell you all this is true.
In addition, if you are Christian or Catholic, public schools don’t teach religion, and it is important for them to build these morals and values at a young age to help carry them through life, in my opinion.
There is less drugs and alcohol problems, on average in private schools. Not to say these issues don’t exist, it’s just that they are much less than your regular public schools.
Scarlett, you’ll have to drive up here to Sky Ranch to check it out and talk to the sales office. It’s a nice community, and it’s building as new homes sell. Yes, by the way, you get a brand new home. No problems to mess with like plumbing, roof, electrical, etc.
You can take the 52 straight to La Jolla when it is finished. It is suppossed to be completed by the end of this year. It’s a massive project.
Also, they plan to build a Fast Track lane on the 52, so in a few years when this is complete, the commute should be even faster. Right now, it really isn’t bad. Try driving it during rush hour. I can get to Sorrento Valley from Sky Ranch leaving around 7:05/7:10 arriving at 7:35/7:40!! No joke! And this is without the completion of the 52!

SkyRanchOwnerParticipantScarlett,
That’s a tough decision.
The HOA up here is high at $342, but there is no Mello Roos. HOA is not tax deductible, yet Mello Roos is only deductible in certain instances.
http://www.ftb.ca.gov/individuals/faq/net/909.shtmlThe private schools can be around $200-$400/month depending on which school and Christian vs. Catholic. You would have to look around.
Sky Ranch Crestview would be in your price range. They currently have 3 homes left in the current phase, ranging from $526k – $561k.
http://lennar.com/New-Homes/California/San-Diego/Crestview-At-Sky-RanchThey range in square footage from 2884 to 3270. All have 3 car garages.
I’ve heard of kids going to Carlton Oaks Elementary public school and really liking it.

Which has a strong athletic and academic program. Here’s a list of Christian schools to call and get pricing:
