ParticipantPersonally, I think Suze is awesome.
Like most Piggs, I don’t need her advice, but I think she teaches alot of people about personal finance who otherwise wouldn’t have someone to guide them. Even if her advice isn’t perfect every time for every person, she at least gets “joe sixpack” thinking about personal finance and also acts as a strong influential figure helping “jane sixpack” realize maybe financial independence is a good thing. She has done more good for people in this country than any politician or movie star.

Participant
The more I hear about GATE/Seminar and budget problem, the more I’m leaning toward keeping my kids in private school.
I think the key thing I gleaned from this thread is – each school is different. There are probably several that do it right, several that do it badly and several that do it in a way that makes it no different from regular school.
My boy/girl twins both tested GATE and we got the whole pitch on what it means – but I can’t say the quality of the GATE program will steer us away from the middle school we expect to attend, unless there are real problems with both the standard and GATE classes.
I was in higher-level classes as a high-schooler and was isolated from the rest of the class for freshman and sohpomore years. I must say, I hated that.

Participant
What fun, I get to spend my time re-posting this twice in one day:
http://piggington.com/threadjackers_will_be_persecuted_maybe_even_prosecuted
Key excerpt:
Do not try to turn any discussion, even if already political in nature, into a left-vs-right slapfest….
Come to think of it, don’t even bother starting such a discussion. There are literally thousands of websites that are solely dedicated to this kind of one-sided partisan bashing… I just don’t understand why people want to post this stuff here.
Rich – tell you what. I’ll just grab the domain “jfiquettevsdbrian.com” and you can setup up this same forum software on a host for them and let them have at it. I’ll set up a cronjob to post random inflammatory comments and they will be so busy responding and fighting each other they won’t have time to post here.
