ParticipantI think you’ll be much happier with a purchase if you rent for a while because you will learn about other areas you like, understand the market, and most likely increase your buying power.
The stress of buying when you are in temporary housing stinks, too. Less stressful looking for a rental, I think. Get a rental, let the lease turn over to a montly, then start looking so you are on month-to-month when you are house shopping.

ParticipantSandi makes sense regarding price – what is the opportunity cost?
Will you be burning cash that would sit unused in your bank account? Do you have a hobby that could use that cash which would improve your life more than a nicer home would.
Will buying the more expensive place make your time at home better, or will it be so nice that you will want to spend more time at home, or will it force you to spend time at home cuz you don’t have the money to do other things ?

Participantdoublewide – same experience here.
The seller purchased the home warranty and we kept it open for two years after the purchase, then let it die.
We used it to get the oven repaired and that was it.
I was glad to have it, but didn’t see any value after the first year or two.
