Participant
Would you want a Fire Department determining that your house and family is not worth the cost to their bottom line? Sounds a lot like the healthcare industry.
Sure. No problem. Private fire departments exist and operate just fine.
Focus, people – try not to threadjack threadkiller.

ParticipantOx, I think you should seriously check into pre-fab homes.
I have seen some on TV that come out looking superb.
Take the time to watch “Worlds Most Extreme Homes” and “What’s with that House” and other such programs on Discovery/TLC. You’ll see all kinds of eye-candy and idea-sparks for the wanna-be architect.

ParticipantReally, we need people to stop expecting prices to come down before they start purchasing things again. We don’t necessarily need inflation for a recovery, though.
Actually, two things will really bring on a recovery. First, prices need to come down to affordable levels, then start to creep back up just a little. This way, people can afford the things they need, and justify the purchase because they can say “the price will be higher later.”
I believe it was Rich who said the Fed doesn’t really manage inflation, they manage inflation expectations. This is why.
Good question.
