Participant

The word “tolerance” is bandied about regularly these days.
Clearly those who are insulted by a USA t-shirt on any day have the lowest levels of tolerance imaginable and are just looking for a fight where none exists. To me, that is the real problem. The administrator gave-in to the wrong side here, for sure.
How about telling everyone that whoever starts a fight over a shirt is going to jail?
Perhaps they did wear the USA shirts to get under the others’ skin. Really? A red/white/blue shirt is going to get under their skin? Is it too much to ask that you just deal with the other guy’s shirt? Is it so hard? Imagine the stories they’ll tell their children about the persecution “Yeah. and this one guy wore a shirt with a flag on it. It was hell, man. Hell. So I threatened to beat him up.”
It’s just stupid.
sdduuuude, your post appears to be a reaction to what I wrote earlier.
No. It is a reaction to the event, though I was agreeing that the kids could have worn those shirts just to be assholes. But, they have every right to. For me, this is still about the administrator unable to control the violent behavior of some kids, so he controls the clothing of more passive kids.

ParticipantOnce again, you are missing the reality of the situation. This is not about someone “worried about people who like to fly the Mexican flag.” It is about some morons possibly becoming violent because someone else wore a shirt with stars and stripes on it.
Same concept. Other direction this time, though.

Participant
Is apparel with American flags prohibited on St. Patrick’s Day? By logical extension…
Or apparel w/ Mexico flags ?
Or July 4. Or the independence day of any other country in the world. Time to start a list of all the independence days of all the countries and start sending any one home wearing a flag of a different country on any of those days.
How about instituting a rule “No violence” on May 5. That would seem so much more logical than “No American Flags.” It is a sign of a school administration that has lost control of their kids, I’d guess.
