Participant
sd_matt, you want to consider the “feelings” of a fetus, yet you’re willing to overlook the “feelings” of adult men and women who have a lifetime of experience living in our society.
In my opinion, a fetus can’t have any feelings or conscience because it has no life experience and no frame of reference.
First paragraph; give me an example of what I said that would lead you to think that…..if you are not grasping at straws.
Second paragraph……so if it were you then you would not mind being aborted at,lets say….eight months…since you do not yet have a frame of reference or life experience. Although you would feel yourself dying. But thats just science talking, not your “opinion”. I’m sure you’re opinion caries more weight than science.
So by your standard severely mentally handicapped people who will never be capable of much life experience or a “frame of reference” are not worthy of having their lives protected by law.
I don’t think you have put much thought into your “opinion”. But that’s just my opinion.

ParticipantAllans assessment about the unions agrees with that of my mom who has been in education for some 20 years.
If one side gets too much power/influence then someone else suffers. A big business boss can acquire a monopoly and rape the workers and customers.
The same is true if labor pushes out the competition. That is the overwhelming factor in the CA system.
The CA teachers are suffering too with large classes and, among other things, integrating special needs kids with the rest of class. And you have new teachers being told to sink or swim while dealing with this. Someone somewhere in the teachers union is a very big fat cat.
Vouchers… and the money for them should come from the public system. It needs competition.

Participant

Just like the Cons who avoid putting themselves in the gay mans shoes. You far lefties are no different than the far rights.
I really don’t see the parallel.
Gay people have relationships among themselves. They don’t bother or harm anyone; and they don’t do anything illegal.
If a woman wants to have a legal abortion, why condemn her or try to interfere with her business?
If you don’t like abortion, you can work to make it illegal, if you want. All the more power to you. You won’t be successful, but you may try. In the mean time, leave the women and the doctors alone.
I have spelled out the parallel quite clear. To repeat; neither side is thorough in its thinking or as emphatic as it thinks it is.
You won’t even consider whether or not a baby has feelings before it is born. I have asked you when you think they do but you won’t answer the question.
Quite true a zygote will never know the difference but a fetus in the fifth month will definitely know it is dying. Yet you refuse to even consider this.
The left will consider the feelings of minorities and women, and rightly so, but not someone who is to be born in a month.
Yet you claim to be more thoughtful than the right.

“A tired old observation” would be the better phrase IF people were better versed in their history.
History can be a macro study of human psychology. Read your history with an open mind. Not just something to look for the next ammo against one side of politics.
