Im a vegetarian. I need the granola to bike to work.
scaredyclassicParticipantIf they charged market price, wouldn’t people still Uber v. A taxi?
scaredyclassicParticipantI’m interested in how a company like Uber loses money. Isn’t it just a computer moneymaking machine? Where does the money go?
scaredyclassicParticipant
Maybe a second home there, scaredy, and/or visit friends? We’ll never leave CA completely, but also live elsewhere. The world has lots of beautiful places.
We love New England, and visit friends who live in those areas often. Particularly enjoy the Lake Sunapee area in NH. Alton Bay is also a great place.
I’d worry about squatters.

Gorgeous. Built in 1842!
Yes its a cool house. He had a great neighborhood bar and grill for years he operated nearby. His dad was a big time builder where we grew up and he did a bunch of the work in restoring it himself. But he’s tired of the cold and his youngest graduated high school and he’ll be off on his own. He wants to get back to a warmer climate near friends and family and he wants to be able to golf a few times a week. He’s been up there over 20 years and is ready for a change
I want to snowshoe and get a Subaru. I feel like life might’ve been better in Vermont. This feeling is likely bullshit. It is both perfect, and a disaster, right here.

If I lie down on the tile I may not be able to get up
When I tell my hot wife to just lie on the floor with me and skip the a/c she is generally unamused.

You are so in luck… You see, last night I tried exactly what Scardey was saying, and laid down on my walk in closet that has tile (yeah, I’m moving up in the world..whooohoo)…And he’s right. If it’s probably 5 degrees cooler lying on the tile.
But that’s not all. While I was staring at the ceiling, I noticed a large box I had not unpacked from my old place….So I got up and unpacked it…And oh my god, what a treasure I found inside the box that i totally forgot I had since I was a kid…
[img_assist|nid=27423|title=bingo!|desc=|link=node|align=left|width=800|height=600]
It’s BINGO … with a STEEL CAGE!!!!! as it says on the box!!!! Whooohooo. None of this made in china plastic shit you find these days… This hand crafted BINGO playset has withstood the test of time. I think it was from the late 1970s, maybe early 1980’s from Golden Circle (see the old price sticker still on it). Golden Circle was the dept store that was renamed to “Target”…
Checkout the cool bingo boards. Even if you can’t get off your back from the tile…you can still play BINGO with these boards. These are high tech chip-less BINGO boards that were invented probably from the early 80ies!!!!
Hey you, me and AN…. we can now play BINGO…No need to go all the way to St George for a killer bingo game. We can do this right out side my backyard, without AC of course, if you don’t mind the lizards, too many walls, in far flung lizard infested (new) 92130 house.
The bingo boards are a little funky. They use old car makers name, some of thee youngester millenials never heard of…
So for example, you’ll have say B(uick) – Pontiac..
BINGO!!!
So often the correct choice is to be still and do nothing.
scaredyclassicParticipantIn Temecula, if you just lie still on the cool tile floor, you are ok. Just don’t get up
scaredyclassicParticipant

Your history is largely correct, but it does not relate to what I said.
Oh yes it does! You said:
Given recent inflation numbers, this cannot last, as history sadly shows. The parallels between Biden and Fed chairman Powell and President Carter and Fed Chairman Arthur Burns are uncanny. The stagflation that followed those two lasted for years.
Which clearly establishes a relationship between Carter and Burns. And clearly implies that Carter and Burns were the cause/precedent that lead to years of stagflation.
Now you want to back track and say you were referring to the economic conditions and policies, not the people. There’s a name for what you’re doing. It’s called gaslighting and I for one am not buying it.
I fucking hate republicans. Don’t get me wrong, I also hate democrats. But I can’t fucking stand republicans.
scaredyclassicParticipantif 36,000 is a substantial part of your portfolio, then you’ll probably get a tax credit in ca. taxes are the least of your worries.
scaredyclassicParticipant

sdr, one additional point. You often accuse me of ungratefully criticizing SD, the place where I made my money. When I came to San Diego and invested there, it was indeed the golden state: two-party government, reasonable taxes and regulations, good schools, etc. Now I’m supposed to feel guilty because I see better opportunities elsewhere? I fully appreciate the advantages of San Diego, especially for the uber-rich. But for an increasing number of people, the exodus from CA is real, and I expect it will eventually happen in San Diego, which, as you have pointed out, is benefiting from people fleeing the LA and Bay area.
Straw man. Never said you should feel guilty about leaving.
CA gave you what you have. No need to throw it under the bus.
Be grateful for what this wonderful state gave you. Respect the greatness it represents. Better opportunities? lol! Go and enjoy your life with your family.
I think I might have said you should feel guilty.
You benefit from a state and a gubmint jerb that makes you millions, then paying a few percent back a year just on your income is unbearable. Kinda like taking the money and running.
Even if this time is Carter esque, Carter lasted like 3.7 years. Then the glory days of Reagan deficit spending came, plus Iran Contra funding and atlrggggghhhh…
3.7 years of Carter less once you consider w campaigning a and lame sickness, the term is over almost as soon as it starts., And the beginning of a term carries in on the wave of the predecessor. So really your complaining about ford, or the first few years of Reagan’s term. That’s a microscopic timespan for an investor.
But economic history does not repeat itself that precisely anyway , and if you really believed this is Carter redux you’d be all in on gold, which went up 600 percent in 4 years. Are you? No, you are not. Maybe you have 7.5 perc gold in your portfolio, max. So no, you do not even really believe this is
Carter part 2.Instead you believe we are doomed because Biden is president. Jesus. I need to move to the people’s republic of urlington … Or get off the internet ….
I feel like an idiotic idealistic college student arguing with a smirky old professor. I need to not be this way.

I can’t stop thinking about nh and VT. We were hiking on hot days, mid 80s, but in the forest, shade, moisture, felt crisp even in midday.
I go hiking or riding in so cal and I’m baking alive.
I went to school there and survived winters…
I want to be from where fucking Bernie Sanders is governor!!!
scaredyclassicParticipant
ZK: I have yet to pay full price for Prana Stretch Zion items. Even used they aren’t cheap, but $30-50 for Amazon returns and ~$25-30 for used on ebay isn’t too bad. The fact that they attract tons of bidders on ebay when other more famous “designer” items don’t tells you something.
I will probably in the end bite the bullet and pay full retail for the Prana items when I stop losing weight.
If you want to try out the NylonHikingShortsLifeStyle without spending much ($17), I suggest these:
https://www.walmart.com/ip/Wrangler-Men-s-Outdoor-Performance-Zip-Cargo-Short/898069635
I got a couple pairs in the mail today actually, and am wearing one now. Not as good as the $80 ones, but still nylon and very cool. They are about as thin as running shorts, but not low cut and tight, so you can wear them in public. I also like they have cargo pockets, but you barely notice them so you don’t have the sloppy cargo shorts look.
WalMart items are often way oversized, but these fit true to size.
Scaredy: In my journey on the way to nylon, I also tried silk and linen. The silk shorts, by Tommy Bahama, isn’t soft and thin like a silk shirt, and is fairly nice. Linen shorts are also kind of nice, they have a beachy Cuban feel to them. However, both of them wrinkle and stain more than nylon. Finally I tried hemp shorts, which are very close to linen.
The wrinkling is a feature.
