Thanks for all the info everyone, much appreciated. If I get a 1099 every year from my portfolio manager, then essentially there is no tax benefit to using a manager (assuming the same investments). This is exactly what I wanted to know, thanks.
I’m not saying there’s no benefit mind you…just saying there’s no tax benefit.
Thanks for the info about the ETFs…i’ll give that a look as well.
Is it just me or is our tax system a bit complicated? Flat tax anyone?!

I’ve seen the same thing. Friends of ours are living in a home and allowing it to go back to the bank. No payments for 6 months, and not a single letter or notice of any kind. Not showing on RT, or any other foreclosure site I came across. Our home (the one we’re renting) is in preforeclosure, bank has been out to see us twice, and it still doesn’t appear on any foreclosure listing I check, including RT.

April 13, 2009 at 1:41 PM in reply to: Landlord in foreclosure…or close to it. Little help please. #380110RockemsockParticipantOriginally we had a lease with a management company, but he dropped the management company after the first year of the lease…and we never signed a new lease. I did contact the management company to confirm that he had dropped their services.
I don’t know him at all aside from a couple meetings. He and his wife have a couple daughters around the age of my daughter, so we know some people mutually, but nothing more than that. Our house was his primary residence until his wife took a job in another city and the two moved away.
Security deposit was used as the last month of rent…which surprised me, but there ya’ have it.
jp,
not interested in purchasing it…Mella Roos and HOA would kill us!
