ParticipantWe have a replacement cost policy (so they won’t depreciate our belongings) with a policy limit of $52K with USAA and we pay $268.41 per year. If you don’t have as much valuable stuff or if you went for the actual cash value policy, it would be less. If you have more stuff, it’ll be more…of course, I’m not sure how this compares with other carriers.
When I was in college (and had essentially nothing), I paid $6 a month through State Farm. It was more for liability purposes…who wants a poor college kid suing you?

ParticipantThey do it all the time…a lot of borrowers burn their house down twice. But it’s not the bank that goes after the borrower, it’s the insurance carrier. The bank will file an insurance claim once they are aware of the damage, the carrier will investigate, pay the bank’s claim, and go after the borrower.

ParticipantI have to say that I completely agree with you, svelte. I was given the choice when I had my daughter a year and a half ago, but I just couldn’t stay home. My husband was my sole source of entertainment and I could feel my brain cells withering away at home… Going back to work was the most rewarding thing I’ve done. Plus, I know my daughter will receive 8 hours of mental stimulation whereas if I were home, I would be cleaning and running errands and she would be left to play by herself.
