Rich ToscanoKeymaster

Thanks for tattling Brian.
There were people tattling on Brian for a half-political comment that he didn’t even start. Some people don’t like hime and must be monitoring all his posts. If that’s how it’s going to be, then so be it.
Everyone is “tattling” on everyone else and that’s good as far as I’m concerned. It enables me to take actions to keep the forums on point without me having to read every post.

Rich ToscanoKeymasterPlease see this thread:
http://piggington.com/threadjackers_will_be_persecuted_maybe_even_prosecuted
…wherein I requested that people not post these political flamewar threads.
I don’t want to delete the thread because some people have spent time making thoughtful comments. (Although I have to admit, everyone has been fairly warned that replying to such threads or comments entails the risk of deletion).
For this post I will turn off comments; in the future I will probably just delete such things.
Zeitgeist, I haven’t witnessed a “violation” by you before. (This doesn’t mean it hasn’t happened, just that I haven’t witnessed it and I don’t feel like spending the time looking). Please let this be the last.

Rich ToscanoKeymasterI will give her the benefit of the doubt as to her intentions, but I agree with garysears that a 90% nominal decline in home prices is “doomer fantasy.”
The Fed created a trillion and a half dollars out of nothing, on top of tax rebates and all the rest, in order to halt the housing decline. They only stopped because housing stabilized to some degree. Are we really to believe that these same people are going to sit back and let a 90% price decline play out?
There may be lags, but the printing press always wins. There’s no way these guys will let that (or anything close to it) happen.

Rich ToscanoKeymasterdavelj, in the graph of household net worth you linked to:
– inflation was rising during a long-term decline in household wealth as a % of gdp in the late 60s and 70s
– inflation fell pretty consistently during the big runup in household net worth from the late 80s to the early oughtsI’m just noting that a secular decrease in household net worth can happen over an inflationary backdrop, and an increase in net worth over a disinflationary one.
Anyway, to your question: I don’t know what the number is either. But I feel pretty confident that whatever it is, they’re going to go past it. That is the nature of the pressures in our political system (run by hyper-keynesians who only care about getting elected and a voting populace that is over-indebted and unwilling to take short-term economic pain).
