As much as I love Bill Clinton, the President gets more credit (and blame) for the economy than he (or she) deserves. At the minimum without buy-in from congress it’s tough to do anything. On top of that, 90-95% of the economy and jobs is controlled by forces beyond government control.
The biggest area it can be controlled is short term jobs created by infrastructure projects. If Trump does bring those jobs back it would be in very un-Republican, fiscal conservative fashion, as they are very Big Government.
poorgradstudentParticipant
So a teenage girl is home with a couple girlfriends while the parents are away (I’m assume not just out for the night ) and the unknown robbers post a party plan to rob the place getting lucky (or more likely knowing from school contact) that just the girls are there and in the confusion rob the place
Of the girls invite some friends over for a party, one dumb dumb posts it, it gets out of hand and someone opportunistically steals valuables.
Yeah, it’s really easy for a party to snowball. She tells two friends, then she tells two friends, then she tells two friends…
Otherwise this is an awesome prank.
poorgradstudentParticipantIt’s a city anyone who thinks they are qualified to be President should probably be familiar with.
poorgradstudentParticipantUniversity towns are notoriously tough to get jobs in unless you work for the University. That’s part of what keeps housing in many university towns somewhat reasonable.
poorgradstudentParticipant
Why do people say their vote doesn’t make a difference in CA?
If your vote doesn’t make a difference, then who’s vote does?
In California a person’s presidential vote in the general election doesn’t really matter. If Cali ever goes Republican in the next 30 years, it’s going to be in such a deluge election we’re not going to be the state that tips the scales. When my far left friends talk about voting for Jill Stein, I’m like “Knock yourself out… won’t affect the final result”.
Obviously an individual voter matters a lot in local races, and in competitive house seats like Scott Peters’s.
poorgradstudentParticipantI think the lack of yardsigns and stickers is definitely an indicator of lack of voter enthusiasm on both sides.
Trump isn’t really a “California” Republican, although he does seem to pass the litmus test of “Hates taxes, ambivalent on social issues”. Still, he’s very different from Arnold.
poorgradstudentParticipantI doubt we will see another epic crash, but a dip wouldn’t shock me, and minimally I really don’t expect to see significant gains from current prices vs. inflation for the next year or two.
Basically, if I was on the fence about buying, I’d feel okay staying on the fence and watching.
poorgradstudentParticipantOur appraisal for re-finance seemed to come in way higher than I would have expected. There was no incentive for shenanigans; 20k lower would not have soured the deal.
I think when prices seem to be going up sellers are comfortable naming a price and holding to it.
You may want to wait until after Labor day and see if tunes change. The housing market has some seasonal fluctuations, and there will always be a few properties who hold out too long, realize fall is coming and can’t/don’t want to stay through the New Year. People with families don’t want to move in October, so although there can be less inventory, there also is often less competition.
poorgradstudentParticipantWhy is Equestrian even a sport?
poorgradstudentParticipantYou’ll end up compromising on one of your criteria, but overall that’s doable.

I’m just as curious to see how the BLM movement and the president respond to the cop massacre.
I’m still waiting to see how cops respond to the BLM movement. So far, it’s been mostly to do nothing but dismiss it. That strategy hasn’t worked out well for anyone.
Agree. But at the same time, what is the BLM doing about the black on black killing in cities like Chicago?
Well, I’m sure BLM supports things like better inner city schools and improving the conditions of poverty that tend to lead to the murders associated with the drug trade.
But this is sort of a red herring argument, as there is plenty of white-on-white killing too. Murder is illegal, and we have an okay if imperfect system for dealing with murderers.
In the short run, there are a lot more reforms that can be done regarding policing than there are in ending poverty and the drug trade. One good proposal I’ve seen is consolidating police forces. Most European countries don’t cede control of the police to local authorities, and overall it seems like our model isn’t working well at all.
poorgradstudentParticipantI’m certainly curious how the NRA will respond to the recent tragedies.
poorgradstudentParticipantOkay, apparently my lender got nervous we’d go refi somewhere else and approached us with a rate that somehow is cutting 0.675% off what we refinanced at in January?
This is crazy. It’s also likely to drive up SD home prices even more if money continues to be so cheap.
poorgradstudentParticipant

Another aspect to consider in the California vs Texas debate is state benefits, especially if you are looking to have kids. In California, a woman gets 3 to 4 months of paid disability/family leave and I believe the husband can take up to 6 weeks as well. Texas has no such program so you’ll be relying on your wife’s work’s disability insurance, which generally pays for 6 weeks max for her alone.
I think CA is the only state that also has maternity/paternity care since I used it and took the max time off and got paid a little for it too.
No wonder I got laid off though :(
Yeah, it’s pretty tough as a dad to take the max time off. I’m doing two weeks with my little one while my wife transitions back to work to make it easier on her before we put him in daycare. But considering people take 10 day summer vacations here all the time, I basically just get to horde my PTO and get paid 70% for 2 weeks off instead of taking an actual vacation.
