How would we go about training judgement in people? Can it even be done? The other day I went to the neighborhood strip mall to pick up some take-out Indian food. I parked, went inside, returned with the food. My wife, who was waiting in the car, said”look, there are two cops standing behind that building.” So I look, and I see 2 officers with their guns drawn peering from behind a building corner. Uh, I think we better gtf outta here I say to my wife. As I was leaving, people are still walking to the stores and shops, the cops are still peering intently into one of the stores and their guns are still drawn. Why would they draw their guns and still let people mill about like nothing was happening? If there was a potential for a shoot out they sure were protected but what about those of us not wearing body armor oblivious to the possibilities that could unfold? Those 2 cops just seemed plain dumb from my perspective.

Excellent question I ask my friends who are gun nuts. They want to give the police and military more power to profile and arrest potential criminals and terrorists. But what happens when the police wants to take the guns away?

The problem with the word pride and the current usage is that it is only acceptable when used by those who have been the target of discrimination. Most would not think it would be appropriate for people to say I’m proud to be white and of northern European descent. In fact, although gay pride is seen in a positive light, white pride is a term popular with imprisoned neo-nazis*. To me, this sort of takes the meaning out of the word – it seems like something people use to convey whatever they want (like “Smurf”). I guess I wish people would stop relying on popular buzzwords (“critical mass” is gone, “reach out” sounds a little creepy to me, apparently “amplify” is enjoying current popularity) and just use words that communicate a thought. I had this discussion with scaredy in another thread – I think educators should be prohibited from using the word amazing, and maybe phenomenal.

Saying you are a proud Scandinavian or proud Norwegian won’t raise any eyebrows and
I have yet to hear objections to Octoberfest or to St. Patrick’s day -celebrations originated by the fair skinned. Somewhere out there is the master key to all we object to but I haven’t found it yet.

However,someone who acts and incites others to act, on bigoted and racist views towards genuine American citizens mind you, is on a whole nuther level.

I work in a hospital- 25 years now. When someone comes to me as a patient, they have no history- they are just a human being in need of help. Fvck those hospital workers if they are treating patients differently or lowering standards of care based on personal politics. They need to get another freaking job like border patrol or something as they are unfit for their present job.
Question: name someone who said it was ok to take advantage of the laws of the land? What’s the difference between Trumps bankruptcies and someone taking advantage of citizenship laws?
