Participant
Well said, Flu. I see folks at major intersections holding up signs asking for money all the time in Mira Mesa. It always makes me so sad. Here, one of the most affluent cities in the wealthiest country on earth, people are driven to become beggars. I really want to help them out, but I don’t know if giving them money for standing at intersections is the best way. Will they use the money to buy drugs/booze? Can they really not get jobs or does begging money “earn” them more money than working a minimum wage job? Should I just donate money to local soup kitchens? In the end, I don’t do anything. I feel depressed about the state of our society every time I see beggars.
Do the homeless tend to migrate to cities with the best weather? I can’t imagine those same folk setting up “shop” in Fargo North Dakota in early March…

Participant
hmmm,
I guess we will have to wait and see if the State goes into a black hole of no return or rebounds.
I just happen to believe the state will rebound in the next five years. But if you believe it’s doomed maybe you should move to another state.
There are Plenty more to take your place.
I don’t think anyone will block your exit.
Could not agree more(with leaving state) -unless one doesn’t really believe one’s own thoughts and just want to whine/vent. Why not just leave and be happy?

Participant“After months of debating I took a huge step this past week and decided that I have no use for a retirement account in a market like this”
Market like what?
“… paying the taxes and penalties will leave me in a much better position than trying to bet on stocks and bonds”
Huh? Could you have moved to cash/money market and still left it tax sheltered?
“…so my idea is to actually utilize this money and create short term wealth through various RE avenues.”
Didn’t you just tell someone to do themselves a favor and rent or did I misunderstand something?
“I suppose if I was in my 40’s or 50’s my mindset would be completely different. ”
Being in your early 30’s, you’ll be in your 40’s in the blink of an eye.
