The bigger problem is that if you buy a home in CA, it will most likely put you into the “i need to pay AMT taxes” category because, under AMT calc rules, taxes paid which would have been itemized (state taxes, property taxes, etc), are not deductions under AMT.[/quote]
This is where small business owners really have a step up above all of us. The amount of write off that they can put in as “business expense” is huge.
quite frankly they get so much write off that at the end, they end up below the AMT radar.
AMT is really just a way to bring the upper middle professional class down in line with the middle class. The real rich doesn’t feel it at all.

Participantthe MR for stonebridge equals loss of $100k in buying power.
13126 Downing at 3800 sqft just closed for $700k, that translates to $182/sqft. even adding the mello roos penalty of $100k to the price, that’s still at $210/sqft. still very reasonable.
some of the homes by City Ventures sold for close to $750k at 3700 sqft. still not a bad deal after adding the $100k MR penalty.
if you can find deals and if after adding the MR penalty is still in the low $200/sqft range, why not?
of course, there are plenty of folks paying retail or above in Stonebridge. and plus the MR. now that doesn’t make any sense.

Participantaccording to Walmart.com, a 150 count LED string cost $20. And this is not counting specialized shapes.
She at least spent $3600 if not more for the 25,000 LED lights.
And remember, this is not counting the cranes she hire to bring the lights up into her palm trees.
all of this just prior to getting foreclosed upon.
