ParticipantI just realized your chart is price versus equally waited rent/income. Rent seems just as crazy as housing, how’s the chart look versus just income?
I agree today is much more rational than 2006, just with the incredibly low interest rates, I’d expect a higher multiple for lower income.

ParticipantI’m thinking of dropping DirecTV and Time Warner for internet and going with ATT Uverse (DirecTV) for the bundle and reseting the price. I’d rather just bundle directly with Time Warner, but since I have their internet now, may not be able to. And I would really rather just keep both, but have them reset to intro pricing. I’ve got a lot of long phone calls to make.

As others pointed out, If I am in Seattle for example, for a certain price point I can choose from among dozens of local Seattle craft beers, any number of premium world famous imports, or Ballast Point. How does Ballast Pt win that?
You’re thinking the trap of stocks since the mid-80s. Growth, growth, growth.
Ballast point wins by being sustainable. Capitalized on growth, then maintain a $100 Million a year in revenue and kick out dividends and fat paychecks for the founders. Win.
For IPO buyers, maybe not so much. To win, they don’t have to be best, they don’t have to be cheapest they don’t have to largest, they just have to be a viable artisanal choice to the scale of the product they produce. For as long as the foodies are willing to pay $12/6-pack.

Participant
Craft beer may be a bubble but Sculpin is extremely popular and I can find it at quite a few restaurants now. And the last two places I tried to order it but they ran out. Shorting a stock on a place that can’t keep up with demand sounds like a bad idea to me.
Trendy may be bad for long term health. They’ve been in business 19 years and I’ll wish them luck while reminding them with an IPO, you now are public and get to play by a whole new set of rules compared to your private company.

ParticipantGood question. Now, say that capital, like for many of really came from working 50-60 hr weeks for 20 years on top of the 6 years and fairly large amount of capital for education to do that job
Say you’ll take $300k of that which you’ve worked diligently to save, what’s a fair return on that money that took a significant chunk of that 20+ years to get thru week after of labor, nights and weekends?

ParticipantThat’s the challenge for us men. How to raise boys that will be men. Walk the line between not being a bully and not being a patsy.
When confronted with a bully, will stand up to the bully, but with the decency to walk away from slights, and brains to get away when outright dangerous without in turn being the bully or relying on their fists to solve disagreements.
We now get to do this in an ever more hostile environment for typical boy behavior and a PC realm that talks about ‘microaggressions’, while the rest of world deals with the reality of Putin, Assad and ISIS…

ParticipantIt’s well documented that a single parent with no income and two dependent children can receive $40,000 – $50,000 in various benefits.
So what?
Are we better letting the parent and children live in destitution and beg on the corners?
Hope they figure out how to find five other parents in the same boat so they can run 7×24 shifts taking turns worker and then watching the kids?
If you really want to see what a guy looks like that sucks the government money, take a good look at Elon Musk. SpaceX, privatized space launches with nasa still footing the bill for their blunders, Solar City? Rebates, tax incentives, not to mention the green energy mandates that will massively increase your bills and finally tesla, the same and every one of the people driving one. There’s no shortage of other less likable guys getting paid millions for everything from crop subsidizes to have wild mustangs on their ranch or the landlords extorting tenants on section 8
Any small business owner buying a “heavy” vehicle, like the Tesla SUV, yup, one fell swoop tax credit for nearly half the amount the OP complains about.
Yes, let’s whine about kids getting a gallon of milk while people buying $100,000 car pick up massive benefits

How’s your tongue? Is it coated in a white crud layer? If so, make sure to brush it, scrape it and increase your probiotic intake to correct your guy biology. The white crud coated tongue is a sign of bad yeast and whack out GI fauna.

Participant

come up with a kit you can sell someone to grow their own on their patio. much like the antfarm idea: buy the hardware and then the ants ( seeds) will be mailed to you. ie. grow your own ‘tomato’ plant and social media market it can be used for other plants too ;)
You know that isn’t a bad idea.

Participantthats what is great about school kids, you never know when you’re going to end up dealing with the other parents unresolved sh*t.
That said, flu has it right this all goes very badly for the boys when a female instructor blunders into it.
While your at it, better double check make sure he isn’t dropping the “n” word, “c” word or any other names the music “stars” like to bandy about.

ParticipantCan you afford it? Yes, but…
I forget, are you in IT or programming? The 40s are the fickle years where you need to be on top of a niche or your very exposed.
The other thought is your 41. Retirement is 20ish years away. You’re burning close to $80k a year. What’s your retirement plan? If you don’t have a DB, you need substantially more money than you’ve got.
Just. IMHO. But it really seems like your living hand to mouth, just at the $100k burn rate.

ParticipantIf your agent is quoting you $1.5m in coverage, your dwelling must be large and of high quality. I was under the impression only the dwelling is covered (optional personal property), from a cost to replace standpoint not including the land.
If he’s quoting you Market value purchase price versus rebuild dwelling price he’s doing you a disservice. Unless your planning for a 2500sf house and gouge rates of $600/ft to build.

ParticipantSo what’s the tally today. Global CeO resigned. North American CEo resigned day after. Month later, the appointed exec to be North American CEO resigns. Chief communication officer resign earlier. 2016 fleet identified to have additional coding in it. And home country Germany, issues recall of 2.4 million units and prompts recall of 8 million across Europe
Oh, and the head of Diesel engine development from 2006 to 2010, he’s the fourth senior engineer being suspended.

ParticipantActually I don’t think everybody wants that. The vibe on most forums, including this one is often f’em as long as I get mine.
As for the candidates, most are in for their egos, Sanders and Trump, and sadly some of the the Cruzesque righties actually believe the stuff they say as opposed to saying what they think gets then elected. Trump still is in it for his ego, it’s just so big he thinks he’s the only one that can fix it. Cruz and the rest ego too and loco IMHO. Sanders less so ego, or at least comes off that way. Bush, Clinton just mouthing what they think plays IMHO.
Indexing wages to cost of living for the area is commonplace in larger company with skilled workforce. Doing the same with minimum wage has the dual effect of uplifting neighboring areas and mitigating the disparity. The importing of labor from impoverished areas perpetuates the cycle. Is our society better off with $1 McDonald hamburgers in Irivine and 99 cents a pound grapes or slightly more expensive items and workers that make them not so impoverished?
