ParticipantThe system evolved when the balance of real estate information greatly favored the agents. With the new availability of information on the internet, I think the system will adjust to reflect the current reality. Whether it’s strip mall brokerages or something else, I think the system will be significantly different in 15 years.

ParticipantYou must have lived in CA for most of your life :). Oklahoma and Texas are not part of the midwest. And according to the real estate info I looked at for Topeka (KS) the average is 6%. I can’t believe that anyone would pay more than 6 these days, with the availability of information about commissions on the internet. Maybe in areas with elderly people who are not as likely to use internet resources, but I assume that will change over time.

ParticipantRegarding the Michigan and Illinois, what I see is a commission of 5-6%. Maybe the south is different, no experience there.

Participant
I’ve prepared court forms and papers for a LOT of “pro pers” and charged them “piecework” fees but I can’t legally advise them, I can’t spoon-feed them, I can’t represent them and I can’t hold their hand.
Bearishgurl – just curious, and I apologize if you’ve explained this before, but are you an attorney?
