Participant
Let see some guesses as to what you think the house was priced at today and what you all think it should be fairly priced at today.
To answer your question I think we’d need to know something about the location. But for instance, a house in CV (13434 Glencliff) sold originally in 1989 for $580,000. The pictures show the decor to be rather old, but it’s on about half an acre and it seems like it has a nice looking pool. It does have a view of power lines, though. It sold on 8/31 for $1,075,000. I think they could have gotten quite a bit more if the inside hadn’t looked so depressing. Am I anywhere close?

njtosd,I’ll say what I’m sure sdr wants to say, but is too nice to. Take your 17 weeks of forum time and fuck off.
I am not a realtor. I am a programmer. I referred sdr to someone with more money than you’ll ever see in your life and my friend was remarkably happy with the services received.
If you are so hell-bent against realtors, don’t use one and if you are going to bag on a realtor, find a bad one, not sdr.
Participant
. . . The FSBO market is full of nutjobs who think they own the Taj Mahal and that El Cajon is 92037, so you won’t find anything helpful there. . .
I’m not so convinced that FSBOs, with some assistance, won’t become much more common. People who currently sell FSBO are probably rather non-standard, but as the saying goes “The pioneers get the arrows and the settlers get the land.” The nutjobs will probably pave the way for others to sell homes more cost effectively. And I know I’m sounding rather repetitive, but could we at least keep the discussions here to a PG 13 level? Thanks in advance.

. . . In the legal field, lawyers are granted the power to vet their own membership by the state. That’s a monopoly. Same thing goes for the practice of medicine.
I guess I see your reasoning, but would that make the practice of driving a monopoly, too? Since the state requires that drivers pass tests administered by other drivers . . . It’s all a matter of how you define something, I suppose. IMHO, a monopoly eliminates competition and allows the monopolizing entity to decide the price of the monopolized goods or services. There is a large variation in the fees of the professional services that you mention here, so I would disagree with the breadth of your definition.
