ParticipantThe oil companies are regulated, but the regulators were asleep at the wheel, or too busy watching porn and taking speed. How does more of that prevent the oil spill?

ParticipantIt’s also too bad they couldn’t have kept the dynamic seal they had in the top kill attempt, but my understanding of it is that the mud blowing out the BOP would eventually just sand everything down and make tings worse. If it wasn’t for the damage to the pipe, Even if it just made a temporary plug, and the mud had to be continuously fed down there until the relief well is done, it would have been worth it.

Participant
I can’t imagine the engineering complexity of dealing with this at 5000+ below. It must be a nightmare. I was erred in that I thought they sprung a leak on the side. It turns out they were making a side cut (didn’t see the saw in the video when I looked)…
If I were betting, I’d say this “cap” isn’t going to work
Too bad the robotics aren’t good enough yet to be able to unscrew bolts. Would would be interesting if they could get robotics to actually unscrew the bolts bolting the stack they are trying to sheer from the bottom, and replace it with a new stack with a valve with the same fitting.
Guess, that’s not possible though. Not going to try to second guess the enginerds that are working on this.
I was wondering the same thing. I wondered if another blow out protector could be bolted in.

Participant

I posted this because I knew we would get some great responses. Keep them coming!!
Even Brian can play;)
Thanks sdrealtor.
Not surprised that they split up. After 40 years, if you grow apart why not separate and enjoy life instead of hanging on to something that’s not there anymore?
They’ll both lose weight. Good for them. ;)
As far as we know, she was the one keeping his weight somewhat in check.
