no_such_reality table 1 is “family-based”, table 2 is “employment based”. The family-based ones are backed up, not the job-based.
Others: this is the first time since 2003 that the employment-based visa status became fully “current”. It is not a broken record and it’s not at all the same as last year or the year before… There is a flurry of activity amongst the people in my industry regarding this matter. I’m an engineering consultant and my client companies are all up over this town. Take this info as you wish, my suspicion is that this is one of many political attempts to slow the bubble implosion. Sure, people can buy without a green card but many hold off until their future is more certain. I just talked to yet another coworker who bought a townhome in 4S Ranch. I hope this is all just a coincidence, but one must keep his eyes and ears open to all possibilities in these crazy times.

lnilesParticipantHi PerryChase, I thought someone might say that. Please replace ‘foreign buyer’ with ‘immigrant buyer’.

lnilesParticipantdonaldduckmoore, isn’t it kind of risky to buy a house while you’re waiting on a green card? What happens if it is denied and your work visa is not renewed?

lnilesParticipantExactly right, JWM. I’m one of ~3 ‘mericans in a local company of ~200 employees. Several of my coworkers– who are not FOB but have been here on visas– have done just that ($729k SFR in 4S Ranch, $540k townhome in Torrey Highlands, $700k SFR in Penasquitos). All married couples with combined incomes >=~ $150k.

lnilesParticipantCrazy urban legends. Those are neither homeless people nor immigrants coming out of the canyons, they are "chupacacabra".

Now that we've cleared that up, I live in the area half-way between those two parks on Calle Cristobal, and have owned here since 1998. I've never seen a single homeless person but migrants come and go, mostly minding their own business and laying low. The 7-11 on Cam. Ruiz is where they gather and where you can witness daily the law-biding 'mericans' contractor trucks pull up to hire them as work crews (yes even now).
I often jog alone through the canyons as do many other people (including women) and aside from the deer, snakes, coyotes, birds, and chupacabra I don't see much going on.
In the 9 years I've been here there was one home invasion robbery where the suspects were caught and charged with murder only because the cop speeding after them broadsided a woman in her car and she died (apparently the robbers didn't have Paris Hilton's lawyer).

Every other month or so a drag racer wraps himself around a tree, at one point Calle Cristobal had more road deaths than any other SD road. Whenever this happens the neighbors gather 'round and roast marshmallows in the fiery aftermath of Darwinian elimination while we thank the stars if only the driver was killed. Then for months afterwards people (presumably loved ones of the deceased) decorate the latest death-tree with flowers.
Anyhow, that's the 'hood in the nutshell. It's only dangerous if you are a street racer, a tree, a goat, or don't like marshmallows.

lnilesParticipantForeign bank accounts? Has anyone put their money in a non-US bank? What kind of interest do you get? What kind of exchange rate do you get?

lnilesParticipantKill 3 birds with one stone: make fatter Americans pick the strawberries. They lose weight with all that labor, which in turn reduces the cost of medical care (another hot topic in itself). Of course, we also get our strawberries. We can even market this as a new diet plan, so fat people can pay us to let them work in our fields! Then once the illegals see that the fatties have taken over, they’ll stop coming (because they won’t have jobs). Thus:
1. Health care is improved
2. Strawberries are picked
