The entire college system is broken and debt relief on federal only loans is not ok. If Joe is going to forgive student debt, do it across private as well. Otherwise don’t give relief to anyone.
On the college topic, I pissed away 80-100K in college partying like I was in Animal House. I learned nothing but street smarts. 4 years of French language (8 total with high school) and while I can read it, I cant speak it. I have already prepped my oldest that she will be going to whichever college provides her the most or pays for her entirely if she gets an athletic ride.
I am not for handouts unless you work for them. Stop handing out “free” money and bailing everyone out. This includes the CA gas rebate/ handout.
LAAFTERHOURSParticipantThanks for the input SDR. I am adding the Cybertruck in 2022 (pending delay) and/ or the Rivian R1S so while we dont drive a lot now, we will be charging more often. Training my wife to run dishwashers and washer dryers will be interesting. I assume you make up the 16 per month surcharge?
LAAFTERHOURSParticipantCan we resurface this thread? Trying to decide on plans and have no idea which to go with. My deciding factors:
20 panel Solar array with Net metering.
Tesla.
Work from home.
Spouse may work from home as well.LAAFTERHOURSParticipantThese rule: http://www.miir.com/hydration/growlers
Regarding breweries, I live in SEH so I am surrounded by solid choices. Lost Abbey/Port, Toolbox, Iron Fist, Bagby, Rip Current, Belching, Mother Earth. I really hate being so far from Miramar because I love Alesmith and would like to get kegs of their stuff and hess.
Stone I only buy at costco.

Anyone other piggs use salesforce? They charge way too much to have an outage.
http://trust.salesforce.com/ Anytime you need status. I have been a user for 10 years and implementation practice manager for 6. Yes its expensive and yes there are cheaper options but its the best option for the dollars you spend. I dont disagree that the downtime on NA14 is costing many businesses lost revenue. You should be able to negotiate with them.

The other problem for Tesla and the model 3 is that the federal tax credits for EVs manufactured by Tesla are going to expire fairly soon (Federal tax credit for EVs are limited to the first 200K units produced by an auto maker). Tesla already close to 100K vehicles produced so only another 100K of their units are eligible for a tax credit. Congress could extend the tax credits but I don’t know that they will. I don’t know about any sort of CA tax credit for EV. That might have different parameters.
The tax credit does not end (drop from 7500/10k to 50% of that value) on car number 200,001. It ends two quarters after the 200,000th vehicle is delivered. This was covered at length in the past few weeks. Assuming there is no extension of the credit, expect Tesla to hold inventory to maximize credits for as many people as possible. They could arguably hold inventory from release prior to hitting the 200K and flood the market to fill as many deliveries as possible to allow for maximizing benefit to the buyer. I am not saying that will happen but its one play to benefit the consumer.
LAAFTERHOURSParticipant325K preorders in the first week (per Elon today). Wow..

LAAFTERHOURSParticipant

Performance smokes the comparable options.
Really? Model 3 0-60 is <7 seconds while the current 328i is 5.6 seconds, the 340i is 4.6 seconds, the M3 is 3.8 seconds. So, I'm not sure the Model 3 will do the smoking.
Smokes wasnt the best choice of words. Beats is probably more appropriate. That being said, I referenced base models and the 328i is not the base 3 series (320i is). 328i is 38k so arguably that is not an apples to apples comparison. Link for your reference http://www.bmwusa.com/bmw/3series/sedan (320i / 320ix are 7.1 seconds 0-60).

How stoked would I have been when I started to drive knowing I didnt have to pay for gas (ever)?
I would assume that if you're getting a $35k+ car as your first car, you wouldn't be paying for gas, even if it's a BMW or Benz. I didn't pay for my gas when I first started driving and my first car was a Corolla, not a 3-series. I think I would be stoked to get a $35k car as my first car more so than the fact that I won't have to pay for gas.
In my post I mentioned my child will be driving in 7 years (at best). Assuming that in 7 years my Model 3 will be heavily used for 3-4 years, the car will probably be valued in the high teens on resale. A new corolla runs roughly 17k and up. My first car was a hand-me-down Jeep Grand Cherokee. When the Jeep was new, the car was pushing 30K but it was used and probably valued in the high teens when it was handed over to me.. Pumping cash into that thing weekly sucked as a teen. My point was that getting a first car that is a used electric car not requiring gas money on a weekly basis (which is something all or most of us had to do) is a nice benefit on top of the car itself.
LAAFTERHOURSParticipantA base model 3 @ 35K before tax incentives/ credits (assuming you get them before the 200K sold threshold is met) vs a base model a4 (37K), 3 series (33K) or other comparable sedan is a no brainer to me regardless of owning solar or not. You get immediate access to HOV lanes so that is a significant added benefit as a commuter. Performance smokes the comparable options. Yes there will be tons of them on the road but what car at that price point isn’t common on the road? To another’s point, I dont think the sound of the car will lessen the noise on freeways as the tires hitting the road produce a lot of noise. Semi’s wont be replaced by tesla’s so not sure they impact home prices.
Having solar at home only adds to the value prop. I have solar and work from home. I may eventually commute but I am buying a Model 3 as soon as my reservation fulfillment email comes up. I would buy two if I could and lose my SUV as I would rather rent a big SUV for a random long distance family trip vs pay to operate, maintain and insure one. I have a kid who will be driving in 7 years so by that point my Model 3 will be a hand me down for her. How stoked would I have been when I started to drive knowing I didnt have to pay for gas (ever)?
LAAFTERHOURSParticipantResurrecting this discussion because when many of us signed up for the rebates, there was nothing discussing the Fed taxing the rebates as income. Tax season is upon us and MWD asked for W-9 to send out income statements.
The MWD has not fully disclosed whether these are to be taxed as federal income. Considering the money spent to pay someone to remove lawns was paid for by taxed income, the rebate was used to pay a contractor to install a permeable replacement for said lawn and that individual pays income taxes, it seems like the IRS is trying to triple dip on tax revenue asking for the rebate to be considered income.
I know the federal energy conservation rebates in terms of whether they are income or not are specific to everything other than water so the argument seems to be that water conservation doesnt apply (which seems silly considering its the worlds most valuable resource).
Can any tax experts weigh in on this?
LAAFTERHOURSParticipantInstalled a quiet cool whole house fan about 10 days ago and its been great in the evenings for sleeping, especially the last three nights when it got down to maybe 75 by bedtime for the kids.
LAAFTERHOURSParticipantA lot of people may opt out of the new school because of the delay but the lower grades are rather full. I think there were supposed to be (3) third grade classes for the coming school year.
With regards to the old glen neighborhood, I know some families in there and they love the subdivision but to evolusd’s point on the power lines, all of the subdivisions on that side are very close and that could impact your resale, your view and hopefully not your health.
The park mentioned is way better than it used to be so that is a nice feature to have in close proximity. You could walk your kids over to brightwood and walk them down the path to school if you go to SEES and SEMS.
LAAFTERHOURSParticipantI am also a resident of SEH and can give advice. Questhaven is busy so consider the noise in your decision to live there. For rental purposes, it wont matter. The stop sign/ four way intersection is dangerous as many people blow right through it but you would be in proximity to the park. I assume you are off questhaven and not off wild cat canyon right?
I cant speak to the condos but with a family of 5, that may be tight.
Edit – I assume its the house on old glen. Also, consider your proximity to schools. San Elijo elementary is overcrowded but you can walk to the school assuming you are in SEH boundaries. Try to walk to SEH because pickup and dropoff blows. The new school double peak is in demand but is delayed until August 2016 (which works for your kid going into K). The school will be K-8 which is nice if you want to keep all of your kids in the same school together and its supposed to be rock solid from a technology perspective. Getting the kids there will stink but hopefully a solution comes to light for that (like buses for the district).
June 5, 2015 at 11:36 AM in reply to: Solar Heating for Pool – seeking product and contractor recommendations #787035LAAFTERHOURSParticipantAny idea if salt collecting on top of the cover is bad for it? I may need to trim my cover more as some water is seeping on top and once it dries, salt residue is left behind.
