GolfGal,
I think that you are right. This all about giving the perception of doing something and mitigating as much of the Deflationary damage as possible short of going Weimer. I think Bernanke knows that he can’t stop the Deflationary spiral we are in. Only, he is willing to walk up the edge of the abyss, look over, and dance a wild jig (since it’s St Patty’s Day). The question is, does he lose his balance and fall into the abyss??

GolfGal,
I interpreted your posts about the financial system to mean that the Fed’s actions kept us out of an immediate / short term cascading liquidity crisis that might have been brought on by letting BSC sink on it’s own accord. I could very well see that being the case. In the long wrong however, I don’t think it will prevent other IBs from failing due to solvency issues. But I doubt you would disagree with that either.March 17, 2008 at 12:07 PM in reply to: JPM offers to buy Bear for $2/shared; Fed cuts discount rate #172013JWM in SD

“How is that going to affect me again?” It may or may not affect you now, but it will affect you in the future.
I have stated numerous times what can be done to insulate oneself from this as best they can. If you are not paying attention and too worried about whether CV home prices are going down as fast would-be buyers would like, then I can’t help you…sorry.
