ParticipantXBoxBoy,
I am also shopping in La Jolla and the tide is definitely turning. A lot of sellers are chasing the market down. I started looking last summer. At about the same time, I found the Piggs and became a convert, so now I wait. Many, many of the houses I looked at almost a year ago are still listed – well, repeatedly relisted to look “new”.
That house on El Paseo Grande was not that great. I think the buyer overpaid at $2.5 million. It is on a corner with horrible traffic and the new Scripps conference center will block some of the view. The place had a very strong mold smell, which the realtor said was because it was closed up since the seller did not live there. Maybe. It is stunning to me that someone paid $3 million for it 2 years ago.
I went to a few open houses yesterday. At all but one, I was the only one there.

ParticipantI’m pretty sure some homes in Highlands Ranch burned in the last fire. Granted, I was evacuated too, but that part of Poway is a pretty high fire danger area. I have small kids and I would not be comfortable living there. Plus, for me, it is too hot.

ParticipantRaptor,
This is an interesting discussion. You and I have a lot in common. I, too, grew up poor (spent part of my childhood living in a public housing project) and am now shopping in the same price range you are. I put myself through lots of school, got involved as employee #3 at a tiny company that I am now president of. The major difference between us is that I am a woman.
I imagine that my husband would be pretty unhappy if I dragged him through 100 homes and then said we are renting. He would have every right to be frustrated and I would totally understand that. But somehow I doubt ANYONE on these boards would call HIM spoiled and whiny and suggest he get a job. I also doubt they would accuse him of spending my money at the beauty salon.
Some of the guys on this board really need to get a clue about women…
