Oceanside has at least one area that is a relatively great bargain when you look at southern, or for that matter all of coastal CA. real estate. Fire mountain is a unique little oasis in Oceanside and it is adjacent to Carlsbad so you can enter and leave and never know that on the other side of the hill Jimmy the pimp is rounding up his ladies for the night. The schools are still bad though.
The other thing it has going for it is gentrification. It is just a matter of time before Oceanside is quite a bit nicer. I don’t have the data handy, but a couple of months back I was looking at Fire mountain and plotted some home price data for all of southern CA. within 3 miles from the beach and Oceanside was by far the best deal price wise excluding the border area. This gradient is going to cause young couples who aren’t afraid of a little grit and who love the beach area to move in. If I was 10 years younger, a gun enthusiast and did not have kids I’d live there now.JJsqueezeParticipantOceanside has at least one area that is a relatively great bargain when you look at southern, or for that matter all of coastal CA. real estate. I came away being far less concerned with them as a threat. They are industrious, intelligent and hard working, but they also have very opressive government control and in general they are pretty disgruntled with their leadership but without any voice to change it. They still need to go through the transformation we went through 200+ years ago before they can establish a viable worldwide dominance. In these equations, we really should not discount the things that make our country great. At the same time, we do need to wake up and create a culture that is a little less arrogant and recognize that much of what we take for granted is a priveledge, not a right.

JJsqueezeParticipantThis tiny little mind knows it’s limitations and when it makes mistakes, tends to look for it’s part in them so they won’t be repeated. It also recognizes that it ALWAYS takes two to tango and while a murder or rape victim has no say in their crime. A victim of a con typically does. Blame the universe, blame everyone but yourself, then you can rest assured that years from now you will be angrily bitter over someone else taking advantage of you because you didn’t learn your lesson. It’s the same victim mentality that I see people use in jobs or relationships they are unhappy in. It’s always someone else’s fault.
Like I said, I wish you well, I hope you get your money back, I hope the crooks get what they deserve, I also hope you learned a lesson.

JJsqueezeParticipantI feel for anyone who was conned, but I have also managed to steer clear of every get rich quick scheme that has come my way ever since I lost $20 bucks from a three card monte game I found while walking down the street when I was 17 in LA. I remember thinking I was very stupid to think I could get something for nothing. Simple rule-if it was that easy to make money then everyone would be doing it. I am sorry that you had to learn this lesson with larger stakes. Be honest though, didn’t a little voice tell you that something was wrong? I hope you get your money back, I also hope the real crooks get a good long prison sentence and I hope you take away a good ass whooping from it and learn your lesson. Please own your side of it and at least acknowledge that the only thing that put you in jeopardy was your own greed and stupidity.

JJsqueezeParticipantGreat post. I was talking to the tooth fairy and easter bunny about this just the other day. They both concur with you that this one factor must mean that we are at or near the bottom.
