Participant
John, I agree with Rustico all the way. In watching the youtube clip, it appears that Obama is expressing the fact that his grandmother was raised a certain way, and that way is to fear people of color that she doesn’t know. I get that there is some resentment, some sadness, because clearly people shouldn’t be raised to fear other races simply because they look differently. There is realism in his words, John. It’s an observation of what has transpired in this country and been passed down through generations of families regarding race relations almost since its inception.
On the other hand, when I watched and listened to Ferraro’s attack on Obama and his perspective on Obama’s statement concerning his grandmother, it made me SICK. Ferraro and company are encouraging fear and devisiveness among the races. It needs to stop.

Marion,
What if that had been McCain and talking about the typical black person?
Would you defend him as you defend Obama?? No, of course not.
Ferraro has done a tremendous about of good works for the black community and now you want to accuse her of creating fear and devisiveness among the races simply because she made a comment grounded in what she considered to be the truth.

Marion, Obama listened to this guy for 20 years. Think about that and put Obama’s comments in that context.

Participant
With regards to John’s youtube clip,
Sounds to me like he is talking honestly about schisms all of us , black or white, have in this country with regards to color no matter how even about race we might want to be and he is expressing a belief that it is getting better. Well this is politics. Clearly many people want to attack the voting conscience of those who have a deeper schism than others.
It is the part of the republican platform that is designed to appeal to simpleton voters, of which there are many, fear the socialists. fear the terrorist. fear the black guy, love Jesus, love “freedom” and the flag… vote Republican.
I never watch Fox news or any tv news for that matter other then Bloomberg. I found this on youtube.
Perhaps you may get something from it.

ParticipantI think its obvious that Obama meant that he considers the typical white person to be racist.
In using your standards to classify me as a racist you must also include Obama as one since he considers the typical white person to be racist.
See for youself and judge this like you would judge it if this was McCain on tape and if McCain had use the term “typical black person”
I never claimed that the typical asian or black was racist while Obama did.
Marion, I would have given anything for Colin Powell to have ran for President and I would love to see Condi Rice on McCain’s ticket.
