Participant
Laura and you other “chicks,” I’m not the boss here (Rich is). In fact, I am not even a known poster. But I’m so glad so many women have come forward out of lurking. Thanks. I think we have added value. That jf-whatever-his-name-is would have us staying home with our young kids and just SHUTTING UP. I am educated enough that I stayed home with my kid till she was 11, but I was still working full time as a contractor. The difference between then and now is that I and other women and other mommies in the same situation used to meet in local parks and talk investing or whatever in local parks while our kids played. Now, 20 years later, we can do it on sites like this. And we don’t have to keep a watchful eye on the monkey bars.
Thanks Rich, Temecula Guy and others for your support. We will now probably fade back. But thanks for the opportunity!
Come on now(g). I never said that. I was taking up for women by suggesting a reason for not posting to these sites as much as men.

Well gee how many men here fit that category? C’mon, what a double standard.
There are also degrees of working like part time, job sharing, and full time telecommuting. I’m a programmer and work entirely from home (which if I couldn’t I’d be a stay-at-home mom) and I’m allowed to check out piggington while I’m waiting for files to transfer or need a break from trying to figure a bug out! π
I am just saying that the numbers don’t reflect less interest in news etc then men as some might infer. One factor is that women with kids have a fun time job just helping them with homework etc. Throw a full time career on top of that and women don’t have as much time as men do to spend on the Internet goofing off.
My guess it that of the 20% who are women who post on these sites on a regular basis only 20% have young kids.
