ParticipantDitto on the 2 or 3 staggered payments depending on the emotional maturity of the kid. Best case to have full payout at 30 so they have some $ for house. Kid is a dud, them long annuity type payment to support him.
oh, and 100% ditto w/flu on all the other people with their hand out to manage things.

ParticipantThe older I get, the more I am convinced, ‘what goes around comes around’. Sometimes it takes a little time, but it is worth the wait. I’ve got stories..
On a similar note, it only takes 1 jerk to ruin what 100 good things that happened. Keep positive.

ParticipantBack in the day, 1984, an independent council was formed to identify waste in Government. The Grace commission came up with 2,478 ways to reduce federal waste, to the tune of $424 billion over a three-year period.
Nothing substantal ever became of it because in the words of Peter Grace, ” I didn’t realize what a bunch of shits Congressmen are. I thought all we’d have to do was point to where savings could be made, and then they would be glad to do something to stop the waste.” He thinks they won’t change until voters demand it.
Seems like not much changes and the tumor keeps growing.

ParticipantFlyer: Right on the mark about connections. And darn nearly every one of your posts.
If I may add, you don’t have to be born into a ‘connected’ family for this to work. Just get out there and meet people. All types. Volunteer, donate your services, seek out the movers and shakers and meet them. Most are receptive and know the game. And if you can make them money, trustworthly, sharp, etc …. doors open. Learn to be friendly and even your geekiest cubical dweller will soon have a network of diverse people who tend to help one another.

ParticipantThe higher income as well as the self employed write their own checks to pay their taxes. They see every dollar going out. The average W-2 worker just tends to look at the net so the full impact of how much tax is withheld is ‘lost in the numbers’ meaning not many study their pay stub, especially with direct deposit.
When politicians want to raise a tax they like to use the sales technique showing the lowest unit cost to you. ie. “this will only cost you $60/yr, or a penny a day, etc. Hey, you can afford that” Most simply grin and bear it as they never really write a total annual check for tax liability. This makes it easier to slide new/modified tax laws on the middle class.
I hope this makes sense as I’m out the door. I getting my hard hat as SK is gonna want to take me to the woodshed. 🙂

Participant
…he is offered an incredible opportunity and infrastructure in which he can use his ambition to become very wealthy.
You won’t get any argument over infrastructure. However, it is the social welfare programs that gets those same hard working people so disillusioned. They are working and making personal sacrifices while watching lazy people abuse EBT or WIC.

ParticipantLove ya BG but you’ll have to trust me on this. You are also a great researcher. Here is a gift for you:
Andrews Electronics for OEM consumer electronic parts. Good folks, tons of parts.Hobie
ParticipantOk BG pull a chair up to the bar. 🙂 Calling Sony Tech support gets you a fellow in India with an American first name. Read him the serial number and he will tell you the OEM replacement part number. This is different than what is printed on the actual circuit board as they don’t use those numbers for replacement parts and their system would not recognize my number that I’m staring at anyway. But before that, you will be subjected to a new sales pitch for a new TV rather than fix the old one. Annoying. Order part and its is wrong. Try again, new number and assured it is correct. Wrong again. Online sources each return different or conflicting part numbers. Maybe I had the one wierd model, but still….
So there is the full story to why I don’t wanna deal with Sony any more. Used to be top of line products but not anymore. I’m actually liking Samsung stuff very much lately. YMMV.
Hobie
ParticipantJust stay away from Sony Bravia. My $1k unit died in 3yrs and could not get correct repair parts.

ParticipantSo true. What troubles me is that financial prudence is not taught ( or understood) at home. High school should fill this gap and really prepare kids in daily life skills including the value of compounding interest.
