No, actually I don’t feel sorry for them at all. As a current landlord and potentially even more so in the coming years, I do hope rent keeps going up… In fact I hope it skyrockets….
Personally, my living costs are going down with the ever decreasing mortgage rates and generally paying down the loan debt…Meanwhile, my income definitely is staying steadily if not gone up a bit during this time, as I have tacked on more passive income… (I was able to gain 1 rental property from this meltdown…And possible more in the future)…
And relatively speaking, stupid people that did stupid things for the matter have to deal with their consequences these days. They’re starting to finally get foreclosed on… They get to pay for higher rent now…to people like me…And a lot of them, the credit spigot is now off. They’re gonna miss out on the these killer cheap credit that will enable responsible people like us to grow our net worth…..
For the first time, I actually think people that have been financially responsible are starting to get the upper hand…,
Cheer up folks…It’s not all that bad for people that’s been responsible.

And many renters rightly feel that it’s their tax money that’s being used to keep prices artificially high (prudent renters continue to be “priced out of the market”), and keeping the very same deadbeats who out-bid them during the bubble years in “their” homes, payment-free.
CAR,
While I agree with you that it’s ridiculous that banks haven’t FC in that much time….,Taking a look at the couple, I don’t think they are in anywhere near an envious position…look at what they went and are going through… Having filed bankruptcy that many times, having gone through litigation after litigation only to lose in the end…They’re ruined financially. No doubt… They’ve obliterated whatever earnings they had, and even though they at once made good money, ain’t gonna happen for a long time for them. They’re ruined It will take forever for them to recover, especially because rather than walking on the house (which they should have early), they added to their mistakes by filing for BK…both of them…These days, BK isn’t a walk in the park. You can’t easily just have your debt discharged in BK…They made it much harder to do that…Which is why I feel the couple made a huge mistake by trying to keep their house by piling on more debt after more debt rather than just walking earlier..
To me ,for them, they already paid more than you think they did by being allowed to stay in their home for 5 years. It was a complete disservice to them….They’re not going to be jumping up and down for jory that they were able to live there for 5 years without paying rent and saved a bunch of money. It’s pretty obvious. I seriously doubt they had any income to “save” during that 5 years of rent free living….
I ask myself this question. Would I want to trade with them and be in their predicament so that I can not pay for rent/mortgage for 5 years and “save” what: $3000/month for 60 months, or $180k? Um, no….The $200k “savings” wouldn’t be worth it for me to completely ruin myself financially over.
For me, I’m just glad that the foreclosure process is happening at all. I really don’t care when, as long as it happens. To me, once it’s completes, “justice” that a lot of long piggies have been looking for has been complete.
CAR, also, I’m not sure if you caught something about this foreclosure that what I’ve been saying all along….. Guess who FC on this couple. It wasn’t the bank. It was a private equity/investment group….
Like I said before, you and I aren’t going to be getting these killer foreclosures…They’ve/are going to be sold to investment groups….So all those people that think they are going to get 50% off of LJ are still dreaming. These private groups are gonna get it, NOT individuals like us most likely…BUT, the good news is that I’m pretty positive these investment groups (unlike the banks) are going to be expediting the foreclosure of the properties they currently “own”….Because they’ll want to make money on it, and since they have a much smaller problem to deal with than the banks that have a ton more FC’s….They’re going to proceed really rapidly…
..So while we might not see that 50% off, you’ll definitely see that property at some discount once the investment groups flips it around to us…Plus they’ve had to deal with all the litigation to get the home(s) back into a clean title state…Score 1 for private investment groups.

Hold on there…. Dr. Paul sayz…
A pornstar is not the same thing as a prostitute.
A prostitute pretty much will indiscriminately have sex with just about everyone.
A pornstar typically has sex to on screen to make money, but does not necessarily screw anyone indiscriminately.
Not the same thing….

Dr. Paul (Formerly Walterwhite II, formerly FLU)fat_lazy_unionParticipant
Yes, the “sunshine tax” exist, but it’s not nearly as bad as many thinks it is. You might not have the same amount of openings as SV down here, but look at the pay scale, SV are only paying 10-30% more. If you look at the cost of living, your net pay is actually less up there than down here. I’ve ran the number 2 years ago and I decided to stay put, even though I was getting ton of interviews up there. It’s just not worth it to get a net pay cut, just to be in an area that have a lot of jobs opportunity. It might sound like a RE cliche, but you really only need one job, not thousands. If you’re good enough and land that one job, I’m pretty sure your pay isn’t that far off after factoring in the cost of living and commute time.
Compwise only from my W2.. SD is doing better for me than Silicon Valley if you factor in cost of living. And way better than L.A….At least currently….
I once worked briefly in L.A. for 6 months. Oh god, that was the armpits. You work in LA, you work in either defense (armpit in comps) or you work in entertainment (armpit in they way they treat you)… What’s more frustrating isn’t that you get treated like crap, but the fact people actually think they know what they are doing….
fat_lazy_unionParticipant
flu, I agree that SSD hasn’t been out long enough to test their reliability, but according to their MTBF data, it “should” last. However, I do agree that if you have important data, you have 2 options, get a standard mechanical drive to store it in (I have a couple 300GB sitting around if you want it for free sdr). Standard HDD are dirt cheap again, so for ~$100, you can get > 1.5TB.
The reason why I’m so positive on SSD for everyone is because it improve speed on the part where people will notice the most, which is boot up & launching apps. Due to the speed of SSD, you might not need to get more memory, because even if you start paging due to low memory, SSD should be fast enough for you not to notice a performance hit due to paging.
If sdr want to wait for W8, I would suggest get the SSD and reinstall Vista on it too.
My personal computer isn’t nearly as swanky as yours flu. I’m still running on an overclocked Core 2 Duo. I’m just waiting for the day when I can get 64GB of RAM for a reasonable price, then I’ll upgrade :-). Compiling code isn’t the only thing that make you need a faster computer. Photo and Video editing will do that too. If you do a lot of photo & video editing, then it’ll be a good idea to get a few 3TB HDD to store those HUGE files on as well. SSD can’t help you there.
WRT Dinan chip, I think they’re over priced for what you get. I’d probably get the Vishnu chip or the countless other chips out there that make more power for less. The chips are quite easy to install and remove, so if something happen, you can always remove it and bring it to the dealer :-D.
AN, you have to understand. I hate upgrading a PC. Because I immediately think cash in the trash. My last PC upgrade was about 5-6 years ago, before my kid was born. I usually go dumpster diving and get the PC’s that my friends don’t want because they always want the latest and greatest, and so would give them to me or give them at a really dirt cheap price.. Or if I get a different project/assignment, the company got me a computer to my spec as part of the deal… The MAC thing I got out out necessity recently because I needed to get something that had iOS at the time…And while I was at it, wanted something that was fast enough to build linux kernels and Android from source…My mac partition is exactly 20gb, the smallest I can make it because I really don’t use it. I probably won’t be upgrading for another 5-6 years.
Regarding photos. I’ve recently started to take 18mp pictures with a camera I also got recently (after using a Digital Rebel XT for 6 years too)…And I total agree, it chews up storage space like there’s no tomorrow, especially if you shoot raw….Recently, I caved in and got the picasa updated storage…Aside from picasa, it also increases your gmail and google docs storage, so for raw images that I can’t upload to picasa, I store it in google docs.
WRT Dinan: Dinan chips are definitely overpriced. But for folks still under warranty, i think it’s worth it…Most other chips don’t have a drivetrain warranty. Last week, i was excited to see that they finally released one for my truck…

Lol… I know I’m crazy, but if I’m going to be tooting around in an SUV, it’s gonna be chipped and or turbo’ed up the ying yang!… I’m going to track the X5 one of these days :)….So… idiot me decides maybe I can try to do a few trades last week since it was so volatile. Big mistake. $3500 loss later, I’m going WTF was I thinking…So….Anyone says they’re a stock market expert. I’m pretty confident they’re only telling half truths….Me? I don’t mind talking about when I do something stupid… But anyway, I digress….
Interesting side note.
The stage 1 N54 chip produces 360hp/373 lbs tq…
The state 2 N54 chip produces 378/415 lbs t q.
The N55 chip is a stage 2 and produces 355hp/401 lbs tq.I always said the N54 were better engines from a tuning perspective. Too bad that you need a fuel pressure reg upgrade too though..
fat_lazy_unionParticipantI’ve been trying to tell you that all along….If you are in tech..Be in tech… Be in the bay area… or elsewhere. Trying to be a techie in L.A. area is like trying to be a movie star in silicon valley
fat_lazy_unionParticipantOk guys,
Before we talk about what *we* would like to get in a computer, let’s ask sdrealtor on what he wants.
sdrealtor, it would help if you start by describing what you have already.
1. Processor, memory size, harddrive size.
2. What’s going to be the purpose of this machine? Are you using it for work, sharing with the kids, gaming, surfing porn, etc?Computers are a lot like cars. It’s a depreciating asset, only much worse. So… I would not go overkill on one unless you absolutely need to (IE you write software, or plan to use it for major kickass engineering development….)
On the other hand, if you’re looking for an excuse to buy something new, that’s ok too. But if you really are just having a bad crappy computer, I’m pretty sure you can get by if you just redo your O/S slip in a new hard drive and start over. Every computer ends up getting screwed up at some point or the other.
I’ll be happy to help you for free, since all the help you helped me if you aren’t in a hurry.
————————————–
All this about solid state drives, lots of memory, etc… Is only really necessary IF you are running the latest and greatest AND if you plan on tapping out your computer with extreme uses. For most everyday use (most everyone) that is not necessary…Unless you are going to building Android O/S or extreme gaming, you probably don’t need a lot of this stuff..
I am running a quad core i7 on a laptop with two solid state drives more and 8GB of ram only because if I don’t building Android O/S ICS from a clean start would take me 2 hours instead of 45 minutes…And when I do that all cores are at 95% utilitization and I really can’t do anything else when it’s doing it’s work… I doubt most people find a need to do this so I don’t think most people need a core i7 or corei5 for that matter.
I also have the MacMini server edition with the quad core i7…And let me tell you, it’s a dog of a machine running linux and trying to do the same task versus using a normal PC with a core i7. I’m not sure what the difference is, except I only have 4GB of ram instead of 8 in there….And a major pain in the butt to dual or triple boot. A lot has to do with the stupid EFI/MBR hybrid partitioning scheme….
fat_lazy_unionParticipant
sdrealtor: I’d suggest taking a good hard look at a Mac Mini. They are hard to beat for around 500 bucks.
The iMacs are like BMW’s – beautiful machines, but will set you back $1200+.
Not that sdr would but Macs are a pain if you want more than 3 partitions or if you are trying to triple bootMay 4, 2012 at 8:50 PM in reply to: If you had a choice between Ron Paul and Ron Paul, which Ron Paul would you choose? #742998fat_lazy_unionParticipantHasta la vista baby
