ParticipantCMB, I think HLS repeatedly pointed out that the fed fund rate affects lending rates amongst lenders and credit card rates.

ParticipantWhat is the use of the rate cut? Who is really benefitted from this cut?

Participant“Hypothetically, if you gave someone a lowball offer at 2001 price level and they accepted … would you go ahead and buy??”
Why not!! you can always back out if there are any problems with the property after inspection and everything.

ParticipantIs that considered insider information if the company notifies the employees of any problems in advance? Remember Martha Stuart?

Participantrb, you cannot generalize the trend with your argument. Some of the movements were relatively short-lived. The booms in 70s and 80s are good examples. There are many factors involved and one may need to analyze the factors in detail to tell what makes a rise or a bump stays that way.

ParticipantI have offered a 5-6% off the asking price this year and the seller did not seem to be very interested. 40-50% off will not work for sure at the current market condition. Good luck.

ParticipantUnlike buying an iphone, one cannot make rush decision to buy a house. I don’t think this promotion will work.

ParticipantHere comes my question that really makes me scratch my head, there are only 4000 job lost nationwide, and I would see this a little fluctuation. Why would this be such a leading cause for the Dow to come down more than 200 points? The job lost only limits in the financial sectors. With all of the bad news about credit problem. Losing less than that would surprise me. I think the market is overly sensitive these days.

ParticipantIf there were a bailout program, they should assist those with a green card or citizens first, and pay no attention to ppl without those documents who are upside down.

ParticipantCooprider14, if they are doing this, the economy will get stablized for a while. If they did not do it, the economy will collapse shortly. Will you do it or not?

ParticipantIt looks like everyone who is having a loan under is having a subprime. People are starting to get confused.

ParticipantHave you heard that the Chinese government will keep supporting the stock market until the end of Olympic 08. They still have a while to go.

ParticipantIn the upward market, you do because you need to find out how much you have to offer for a house. In the downward market, you still do but not as much because you can always negotiate with the seller at the price that makes you happy.

ParticipantIf the FED thinks inflation is still a concern, they should not lower the rate. And I don’t think they should lower the rate. Lowering the rate may cool down the market temporarily, but the dollar hurts, inflation goes up. More damaging effects than expected. Besides, they have to raise the rate later again and that will cause psychological turmoil in Wall Street again. Lowering the rate is not an option. It is just some loser like Cramer who is yelling to keep the rate low in order to save his ass.
