Also, my daughter was involved with Irish Dancing and this was around the time of the “Riverdance” craze. This activity was just as competitive and rigorous physically as any team sport. I did not know crap about it but was at every “Feis” and always helped with the installation and removal of the dance floor. Damn did my wife and daughter argue for years during that time………..but we all enjoyed it and now only look back at the good times.
desmondParticipantI have been through all of this. Made plenty of mistakes and regretted many things that I did. But when I ask my son today he says he is grateful for what I did for him.
1. Never brag about your kids ability, it will usually be an embarrassment to you later.
2. Never mix up “guidance” with “pushing” or “marinoviching”. Your kid is looking for you to make the decisions and guidance. If league sign ups are coming, sign them up, no options.
4. Don’t look for the sport the kid will be “good in”. That means your worried about your kid embarrassing you in front of other parents. Get over it, it is for the kid and they usually have a great time no matter what their skill level is.
4. Get involved, assistant coaching or whatever you do your kid will appreciate it.
5. You can’t run and hide from the other parents and their behavior, but you better work just as hard as they are with your kid or your kid will be left behind.
6. Sports for kids are important, not for the “potential scholarship” kind of crap, but for fitting in, taking directions from somebody else, etc.
7. No matter what activity it is, get off your ass and work with your kid and stop with the excuses.desmondParticipantNo, it does not. We had workers from Mexico come stay with us for weeks during the avocado picking season. When we would go dove hunting in Baja, we had permits for the guns and a couple of cartons of cigarettes for the border agents. that was 40 years ago.
desmondParticipant
On average earnings are down, on average stock prices are up, I would call this dangerous! I’m thinking bubble, but to make money shorting would be very difficult or very lucky. Look how difficult is was for Bill Ackman to short Herbal Life, and he is a professional. Any business can be propped up, that is the nature of the stock market.
Zero Hedge had this article on CYNK on 7/7, look at it now, up 71% TODAYhttp://www.zerohedge.com/news/2014-07-07/market-top-meet-1-billion-company-zero-revenues
desmondParticipantVG’s not that good, come on!……Late at night while camping at San Elijo make the mad dash across the highway and train tracks, barefoot, and get that freshly made hot donut…..that is the way to enjoy a VG donut…. Who eats VG donuts during the day???
desmondParticipant
I dunno. Call them whatever you want, but I think the Murrietta situation quite accurately represents the feeling of the vast majority of legal immigrants and natural born Americans. Be nice if more of those folks voted.
It’s like a stranger walking in your front door sitting down to dinner curling up on your couch and saying, “whats for breakfast?” Just because they are here doesn’t make it right. or legal, ahem.
Yes that would suck. What would you do if it was a child sitting out on your lawn that needs water, food and clothing? I am actually split on this issue. Unless we have a border that works, meaning knowing who comes in and out, not much will change.
desmondParticipantNo Response? I think everyone on this board is protesting down in Temecula trying to block the buses. After viewing the link it looks like we “Texans” will do what it takes to help solve this problem at least in the short term. Hospitable, kind and giving. Unlike those “Bus Blocking Californians” down in Temecula Valley, mean, selfish racists. Proud to be a “Texan”. The Feds will be down there with the “Riot Squads” tomorrow in TV so you gun toting wackos better load up…….

Cool videos. Are those turkey vultures in the second videos or?
I heard there was good BBQ.
desmondParticipantHope all is well with everyone. One thing about the GoPro is how easy it is to use. Push a button for video or a picture. For “low-tech” guys like me makes it easy. You can just set the thing on the ground here in Texas and see what you get…….
desmondParticipantFrom GoPro founder:
“Nobody needs to get their ass kicked, but it definitely helps.”

desmondParticipant
That sdreader column by the way is a perfect example of exactly what I was talking about regarding misleading, over-dramatsized, tabloid journalism. People like desmond (and most Amercicans) just aren’t smart enough to see through it and get the facts for themselves.
A quick fact check shows that the description of the Nicole Scherzinger episode was bullshit. In reality, the bullet proof car she was in was pulled over by uniformed policemen, not some “gang” and they were let go immediately. The story was totally blown out of proportion by the tabloids (really?). You are GULLIBLE!
Look, I really don’t care about Mexico. I’m not going, my family is not going. Low life old surfers can go because they have no family, friends, and drink to much. I am out……..
desmondParticipant
I agree with you desmond, but you are making my point. The reason you don’t want to go is lack of interest, which is valid. I only said the people who stopped going strictly due to fear of the “boogeyman” that are idiots. Although I have no first hand experience, I would bet 1000 pesos that the girls in the Ensenada strip clubs were not even born yet in the 80s.
Let’s just hope they were at least born in the 90’s. This thread was for actually buying a place in Mexico, far different than just traveling down for a day or two.(In case you forgot) I can find lots of Americans living in Baja that have been killed.
http://www.sandiegoreader.com/weblogs/fulano_de_tal/2012/jan/15/more-north-american-deaths-in-mexico/desmondParticipant

I use Murder as an example because that is a crime that most certainly will be reported in the U.S. if it happens to an American tourist. You guys are all claiming that crime statistics are wortless since most crimes don’t get reported over there. That may be true (although you don’t really know that to be fact). Assuming that to be true, then murder is the only type of crime against Americans that we can hope to get accurately reported in the U.S.
Yet once again, nobody has provided evidence of a single American tourist murdered in Baja at any time.
Remember that is must be a “white” person, browns don’t count. Right dz?
Sure all colors count if they are actually tourists. Still can’t find an example can you?
That said, I think it is safe to assume that few members of this forum are Mexican or Hispanic in general. So for the purpose of this discussion, the fact that murders of “non-hispanic” Americans in Mexico is virtually non-existant would suggest that it isn’t likely that anyone on this forum needs to fear for their lives if they cross the border.
dz
Nobody is “paranoid” or “non-adventurous” or “idiotic” not going to Baja. Just like you said it is a “crap-hole”. I just can’t see myself dropping by Hussongs to party or bringing my old sleeping bag to camp on the beach at my age. I don’t want to drive to Ensenada to stay at the Rosarita Hotel and buy curios. The big resorts further south are fine. But TJ, Ensenada etc. is for a younger crowd or old retirees along the coast. Also, I have heard they are still using the same strippers at the small strip joints in Ensenada that I used to go to in the 80’s… -
