Lol @ roseanne
I think the roseanne situation illustrates just how ensconced in their alternate reality these propaganda-brainwashed nutjobs are. They really think that it’s reality, and they don’t understand that people in real reality see them as profoundly ignorant. I mean, if their “reality” was real, why would anybody be upset when they tweeted about what, in their world, is true?
In their “reality,” comparing black people to apes is de rigueur. Believing in wacky conspiracy theories is normal. These things aren’t questioned in their “reality,” they’re applauded. How many times do you think roseanne has seen a tweet or an article in the right-wing nut-o-sphere that was vile and racist and yet was ignored by the mainstream (because it was from some nobody) and was met with nothing but support from similar-minded people? She probably thought, “yeah, this will get some LOLs and some retweets, just like I always see these things get.” Not understanding that there is a real world out there that she is a part of and where these things don’t fly.
When roseanne’s character on the show was a trump supporter, that caused a lot of conversation and an increase in viewership. But it didn’t really come with any condemnation. And why would it? You can vote for whoever you want. But I think she misunderstood this lack of condemnation for her being a trump supporter for a lack of condemnation for being the other things that frequently come with being a trump supporter. Like being ignorant and a racist and a conspiracy theorist and being ensconced in an alternate reality.
These people don’t just think they’re normal, they think they’re righteous and strong. And the reason that they think they’re righteous and strong is that, in their alternate reality, they are. And the reason that, in their alternate reality, they’re righteous and strong is brainwashing by right-wing media.
And that’s part of the reason why right-wing propaganda has such a strong hold on them and why they’re so reluctant to let go of their support for trump. For them to let go of their alternate reality, they have to go from being righteous and strong to admitting that they have no strength and are of low virtue and that they’ve been ignorant all this time. That’s quite a fall to take. Right-wing propagandists have them right where they want them, and they’re not letting go without a fight.
Great post
cvmomParticipantMy impression is that there is a big temp differential. Just checked weather.gov and right now 92130 is 64 degrees, 92127 is 70 degrees.
cvmomParticipantMy company is outsourcing/offshoring IT jobs like crazy.

cvmomParticipant
Thanks for the correction spdrun, I just caught a snippet on the news, sorry for the “fake news”.
Such a reasonable discussion. This site is (mostly) a haven for smart, rational opinions. I really enjoy reading it. Thanks!
cvmomParticipantNeighbors have done this very well with one of those laser light projectors. It looks great and no need to climb up to the top of the tree.

what is the term of the 1.4%? Is it one month CD or money market?
The 1.4% is their online savings account. Not a CD or money market.
Vanguard money market is currently at 1.37%. I don’t think the additional 0.03% makes it worth the switch.
cvmomParticipantThanks for the tip
cvmomParticipantI am also a worrier, and it absolutely makes me feel better knowing the house is paid off. Maybe not the best financial decision, but definitely the best decision for my peace of mind. You never know what is around the corner for any of us…
cvmomParticipant
In hindsight, Trump may have been a blessing.
I have thought this too a bit, but only if we avoid nuclear war or other major irreparable consequences. His win (hopefully) jolted the Democratic party out of its complacency. Hopefully the Democratic wins last night do not cause those folks to relax too much.
Sad for Hillary though.
I voted for her, but she really made some bad decisions and in some ways did not deserve to win. Her candidacy did nearly as much for women as a win would have.
cvmomParticipant
I carry cash because when you go out with friends, it’s best to have cash so you can a split the bill. Always be prepared with cash otherwise you will have few friends.
I haven’t done this in several years since the advent of Venmo/Square Cash/Paypal. Has made the bill-splitting, paying for piano lessons, etc. much simpler. Also I love having a record to go back to if needed (especially when dealing with kids!) and it is so easy/quick to do. Really have almost no need of cash ever.
cvmomParticipantI love my tmobile plan due to the free intl data and texting. Wonderful when I travel. I think the plan I am on is no longer available, though. And Tmobile does not play nicely with my Nexus phone. I may try an upgrade to the new Pixel when it comes out in a month or so, hopefully will be better. Or maybe will give in and go back to a Samsung with all of the bloatware apps and delayed OS updates. Blech.
