San Francisco Bay Area?
I know two people in the Peninsula. One is more aggressive. The other more laid back. Both good and professional.bobbyParticipant
Truthfully, I’m the kinda of guy that would be as happy driving a $100k car on one day and a $5k crapmobile the other day. The closest analogy I can think of is one of my friends who shops at Tiffany’s one day, and Walmart the other. Oh well, we have our own little quirks.
The problem is that $100k is really pushing the envelope these days. You can load up an M3/M4 and that would be $100k. It doesn’t feel like it’s a $100k car.
You use to be able to get a 911s below $100k just a few years ago. Now a 911s starts around $105k…. Car prices have gotten a little out of hand.I really like the 911s when I drove it and almost pulled the trigger on that… Darn short sales property that came on the market…Though, that was a good decision.
You know what car I really like? My colleague’s McLaren….
this is my set up. Regular car for weekdays and an exotic for weekends. Pretty thrilling when sliding your behinds onto the CF/alcantara seat Saturday mornings.
$100K gets you an used F430 or Gallardo. In the long term, this will likely cost you a little less than an M3/4 (as long as you only drive on weekends).
bobbyParticipant

omg… agree with zk. Buy it.
(can’t believe there aren’t 10 post already trying to shame you into buying a used Prius and donate the rest to world peace)
What would you buy if you could convince yourself to part with 100k?
$100k. Nothing. I don’t think I could bring myself to buying a $100k car, unless my net worth was like around $10-20million, such that my viewpoint of a $100k car was like a $20k car.
Go big, or a go cheap.
trust me, you will buy a $100K car way sooner than 10M networth.agree with the others, buy the miata.
bobbyParticipantI think it was 8.

bobbyParticipantI think the “best time” to buy is when mortgage and prop tax < rent. I don't time the market.
bobbyParticipant“sports” used to be a way to prepare for war.
boxing, fencing, track&fields, shooting, etc.
horses were used in wars. vestige (homage) to an older time.what’s I’m confused about is synchronized swimming and rhythmic gymnastic.
bobbyParticipantsome have car ADD, they get a different car every few years. I have only kept one car for 15 years. The only saving grace for the wallet is that I don’t mind used cars. Cars are made so well these days that used one isn’t unreliable.
bobbyParticipant
……or $52,000.00 per year. Now take 30% away for state and federal tax; John Legal now has $31,231.00……
John Legal should get a better accountant or spend $3 to buy a calculator
30% tax on 52,000 is 36,400bobbyParticipant
Not really. At least in big cities, new docs are commonly getting $100K sign on bonuses. Internal med and Peds starting at $175K plus. It can be a lot of debt, and takes a long time, but if those kind of salaries suck, I’d like to know what professions are getting good starting salaries.
big cities? source?
maybe in the boonies to attract young docs but big cities? hard to believe.bobbyParticipant

And now, a federal appeals court is siding with the bank. The appeals panel says that the government didn’t prove that the bank had intended to commit fraud when it sold packages of home loans to investors.
The bank say they did not intend to commit fraud. That means they admit they were incompetent, rather than malicious. Presumably they will still be punished.
there’s no law against being stupid.
they know they were selling a crock of poopoo but they were blinded by greed. the onus was on the gov to prove intent but couldn’t.May 15, 2016 at 1:39 PM in reply to: The dire climate of CA public university admissions for freshmen #797582bobbyParticipant
ARRGGGGG. For the last time – Henry Ford was creative. The Wright Brothers were creative. Edison was creative. Science, approached properly, is a creative pursuit. The problem is that the more small minded among us do not believe it to be so. Frankly, I’ve known more creative scientists than I’ve known truly creative people who call themselves creative.
One place we have our eye on is the College for Creative Studies at UCSB (note the name): https://www.ccs.ucsb.edu
If you look, you can pursue Biology, Chemistry and Physics (while rubbing shoulders with creative people who are studying writing and art). So STEM majors are creative. In fact, computing had it’s start with technology developed for a loom – a very creative step to apply loom concepts to automated computing/
The problem is that “creativity” has become shorthand (in some people’s minds) for not being accountable for anything. What it means is producing something that hasn’t been done or produced before.
yes. creativity is important. more so than rote memorization of formulas.
I think most people going into “creative majors” means that they want to have fun in such thing as French renaissance poetry. sure, it’s creative but it has little use in the real world.
being creative doesn’t mean not productive but that’s the euphemism for that word nowadays.April 6, 2016 at 9:36 PM in reply to: HOA emergency special assessment in the amount $4000.00 dollars!! #796512bobbyParticipantI almost bought into an HOA/Condo 2 years prior. the story of that place was 3 months prior, there was EXTENSIVE work being done to beautify the place. the cost was some $15,000 to each owner. the plus side was the work was very good. Never bought the place though.
bobbyParticipanta computer can do a lot of things better than a smartest human. At the same time, it can’t do some simple things a toddler can’t.
the day will come when a computer will surpass a human in diagnosing and treating disease. when that day is anyone’s guess
