ParticipantI used to go into TJ every few months until around 2005 or so. I haven’t been back since. The interior of the country is pretty nice, I’ve been to Jalisco since then. I’ve also been to Quintana Roo/Yucatan as well as DF and Morelos and felt safe there.
If Americans would quit using drugs Mexico would be a lot safer.

Participant
Get used to it. You are just seeing what production workers have been seeing for years. You have to compete globally and you have been being paid really well from a global perspective.
Something has to give and I believe it will be the dollar.
Actually the missing part of this story is that the contract agency will be skimming a minimum of 50% on top of that rate. Probably north of 60%. So the end customer is still going to pay a pretty high rate.

Participant

If that does not work, we will have to take away all benefits, such as food stamps, welfare and UE benefits to teach them the virtues of remaining competitive in a global market.
and don’t forget OSHA and the 40-hour week … real globally competitive countries have no need for such nanny-state regs.
And don’t forget that we’ll also have to get rid of all environmental protections. If we want to compete with China, Laos, and Burkina Faso our corporations will need to be able do dump toxic waste and heavy metals anywhere they want. Otherwise they will have to waste too much money conforming to environmental “nanny state” regulation.
