ParticipantFLU, I’m sure he’s busy counting his winnings. He’s a stock trader so he knows how to play the game better than us little fish and I’m sure he never loses any money.

ParticipantYou say that you’re not excusing the behavior of the pirates, but two sentences later, you actually mention that the criminality “started” with Europe.
That’s because it did start in Europe, as you would understand had you read the UN report which you obviously didn’t. And again, I have said repeatedly that that in no way excuses the behavior of these criminal pirate thugs. However, “civilized” countries must lead the way by behaving in a civilized manner if they expect “savage” countries to do the same. Dumping toxic waste and illegally poaching the natural resources of another country are not civilized behaviors, just as pirating, murder, and looting aren’t either.

ParticipantHowever, in this particular instance, the pirates in question were NOT performing any sort of civil service, but were out there solely to perform a criminal act.
Absolutely, and if you look at my posts on this topic I refer to them as criminals and goons. They deserve whatever happens to them, including bullets in the head.
What we should all ask ourselves is why we feel outrage against these pirate thugs but not against the corporate thugs that are doing a great deal more damage and who in fact started this whole cycle of sickening criminal behavior? Why aren’t our media doing exposes about French criminals dumping waste in Somali waters or South African fishermen poaching fish there?
You are unfortunately correct Allan, nothing is going to stop this short of the US taking the place over. Unfortunately there is only so much US power to go around and we’ve got our hands busy…

ParticipantAllan again you are doing the thing where you’re trying to say that I am excusing the behavior of these pirate criminals. Why are you doing that? I am merely pointing out that this is the latest event in a cycle of criminality that started with European companies and governments using Somalia as a toxic waste dumping ground and fishing free-for-all. My point is that no one is above the law and that we can’t let these Euros off the hook. What is happening here is that these pirates, who are responsible for the deaths of tens or maybe hundreds of people will get lots of press attention and bullets shot their way, while the companies doing the dumping and illegal fishing will be left completely alone while their actions are responsible for the death and misery of tens of thousands or more.
The “civilized” countries must take the high ground and stop breaking the law if they expect the “savage” countries to follow their lead. In the meantime a few pirates must get bullets in the head, which is sad but unfortunately necessary.
