Participantif that is the case, we are a resourceful bunch here, how about we identify the ones that have sat the longest, and move in!
Hahahaha I love it! Or even better let’s get some of my homeless neighbors set up in them. I after all have a roof over my head but there are lots of people in this town that don’t. Might as well put those bank-owned foreclosures to good use.
What a sickening misallocation of resources. Here in downtown they are STILL building condo towers that will be completely dark every night just like all the others while thousands sleep in the streets below.
Of course the Masters Of The Universe will soon fix the economy and people will again be buying $600K condos downtown and paying their $500/mo HOA dues. Or not. Who cares anymore?

ParticipantWe’re going to end up with Potemkin villages just like the old USSR! Lots of empty homes so the banks can keep up appearances and pretend that they’re all worth $600K. I love it…

ParticipantAs has been stated here many times, the median doesn’t tell you much without the sample size and standard deviation. But a rising median can mean that more higher priced homes are selling — but that doesn’t mean that people are necessarily making money! For example, let’s say that someone’s been trying to sell their home for $500K for 6 months but in Feb 09 they were finally forced to accept an offer of $400K and lost money in the process. The sale set a new low comp in their neighborhood, yet it will influence the median upward. Are home prices going up? Nope, in fact they went down! What changed was the mix of the homes being sold.
Again I don’t know exactly what is happening, but someone with access to the raw data could tell you. My guess is that it’s the scenario I described above.

ParticipantFLU, I’m sure he’s busy counting his winnings. He’s a stock trader so he knows how to play the game better than us little fish and I’m sure he never loses any money.
