ParticipantBTW, who is going to pay for her international travel?
She reminds me of a young girl I overheard as a TA at UCSD discussing her summer plans: “I can’t get a job paying more than $12/hr so I’m just going to travel around Europe all summer.”
If her parents don’t want to pony up she can just teach English or work “black” jobs for money overseas. It is easy to get an under-the-table job as a waiter/waitress/bartender as a native English speaker in all sorts of countries. Living as a tourist in South America or Asia can be remarkably cheap.
I don’t see that as feeling “entitled”, hell she’s just making the most of her youth. Good on her. Our country would be a better place if more young people did that; everywhere I visit is overrun with young Aussies, Kiwis, Euros, and Israelis seeing the world, having fun, learning a bit about other cultures and taking the odd job here or there for money. Nothing wrong with that!

ParticipantIs Ron Paul still alive?
They have more effective means of dealing with him. He is already viewed as “crazy” by probably 80% of the electorate, the same as his good friend (and ideological enemy) Dennis Kucinich. They don’t need to do anything else to him.

ParticipantIt’s just that, we’re not in a high inflation period right now and scaredycat is thinking about buying now w/ FHA and walk if he becomes upside down. Which is 3.5%. Which, I think is likely to happen if he buys now. Right now is not a time to speculate in a house that is also your primary resident. Especially if you have a screen name of scaredycat.
Agreed, walking on a 3.5% downturn is just silly. Hell almost everyone loses a ton of money when they first move into a house. The transaction costs of buying and selling are huge.
I’d say the reason to go FHA is if you expect high inflation in the future and you’d rather keep your cash somewhere safe. Of course you pay a penalty for doing so, it probably doesn’t make sense for everyone.
