betting on fallParticipant
Finally, a political topic I feel like commenting on.
Its not the job of courts to second guess public officials when they make bad decisions (or good decisions). Judges just make sure the proper processes were followed, and even on that they do (and should) give a benefit of the doubt to elected officials.
Its the job of the public to try to keep politicians from making dumb votes, not judges.
There is no doubt that the pension deal was a very stupid policy decision. Aguirre’s problem, however, was trying to use the legal process to overturn a bad policy decision and the legal process is not well suited to that. Good policy undoes bad policy. We need someone who can get the votes on the council to change the pension plan, or to vote to fire workers and live with the consequences- let’s see if our new council members can do that.
But the bottom line is that our political leaders failed us by making dumb pension deal. We have to live with that, and we can’t expect a judge to bail us out.

betting on fallParticipantI haven’t chimed in for a while on this (or any) thread, but I have been keeping my eye on the market. Sloooooooow is the only way I can describe things. For those not familiar with the market, I think this area is a great example of what is happening in old markets. Some folks willing to take a cut from their wish selling price can actually sell (see the Claremore house: http://www.sdlookup.com/MLS-086015686-6426_Claremore_Ln_San_Diego_CA_92120
Others aren’t willing to mark down to the reality of the current market (Yokohama, the new listing on Madra) They aren’t moving.
It seems the issue is that the number of buyers at the 700k+ market is extremely small, but the number of “must sells” in that category is small too. So we have close to nothing happening in the market. Funny that we have 6 pages of comments on a market doing nothing. But yes, its interesting.

betting on fallParticipantMy mother in law was lured into becoming a realtor about a year and a half ago. I will not comment on whether it was because she was “pretty” or not.
Point is that she sold two houses: her own investment condo and my house. Thankfully she found a broker who is willing to pay her MLS fees and other carrying costs for a while.
Point is: you need to be able to find clients. You’ll pull one or two sales from family and friends. What after that? Is someone willing to cover your MLS and workers comp costs while you try to find clients?So- either have a plan to find clients quickly, or find a VERY generous broker who is willing to be patient. Or be ready to put out some of your own cash to stay in the game.
