Damn, that article was a downer. The thing I don’t understand is where all the money goes when the markets crash. They say other countries have been running their printing presses just as much as we have, to keep their money from appreciating against the dollar. With all that money in circulation, from all over the world, aren’t asset prices permanently inflated to reflect all the new money? The money can’t just disappear of the face of the earth- it has to go somewhere- so there should be some sort of support for asset prices. Can someone explain this?

Getting back to the “nature vs nurture” thing, I have two cousins, both adopted by my aunt/uncle at the same time, when both were very young. The two cousins are not biologically related. One is very outgoing and participates in some risky behavior. The other is extremely quite and is working her way through college.

This is as close to a “scientific” trial as I think you can get without examining data on thousands of people. You have two children both adopted early on, with drastically different outcomes.

fat_lazy_union…, mind if I ask what industry you work in that paid 200k in mid twenties? I’m a mid twenties engineer, attended top universities, blah blah blah making about 1/3 of that. I’m looking for a change, and I’m still young enough to pull it off.

My opinion-
Who cares what the May numbers say?

We all know the market is declining and that the Case-Shiller index is the best (but not perfect) way of measuring the price movement. Forget about the median. Don’t even bother looking at it; it is junk. Some will argue that the Case-Shiller lags the market, but I really don’t care. The bottom will last for several years, so I don’t need up to the minute information.
