ParticipantI just checked out KBH KB Homes profit margin and it’s at 9%.. then I checked CHB Champion Enterprises and their profit margin is at 11% with 77% return on equity.. Cav’s is at 5%.
I think we’ll need a larger sample and more information to determine who is more profitable. I would think the larger company would have a better chance at having a vertical integration to protect profits, but I would think these prefab homes would have more profit in the price being that they are even more cookie-cutter in their philosophy than someone like KBH.
Cav’s book value is 5 cents less than the current share price!

ParticipantMaybe we can do ARM and LEG I/O? I know the joke has been around..

ParticipantThanks for the info asianautica.. My question to you is, at $3.00 CAV is at 4x earnings.. that’s pretty darned good if you feel that the company has alot of room to grow like I do… That would be like lucent being at 50cents.. I know P/E isn’t the holy grail.. but…
I guess you’re right though, should probably see if these are good bottoms.. these two probably aren’t going anywhere too fast… No sense in overpaying, especially when I can be using cash in the meantime in my more volatile favorites like energy and mortgage options…

ParticipantI’ll post back in a year with.. how theyre DOING is what I meant to say.. that is if I’m still holding.
Don’t take this thread as a prophetic attempt, I’m just thinking maybe it could become interesting topic.

ParticipantYears ending in 7 (2007) are notorious for intra year sharp declines, so I will want to dodge that if I can.
Did you read that on Yahoo! Astrology?
There is no way to project back in time and know what our opinion might have been at a specific point in time, as to what earnings would do in the future.
You haven’t seen Back to the Future?
Chris, do you have a spot on your site that shows you performance for more than a 3 year window and profit % rather than % winning trades?

ParticipantHi, I’m a post.

ParticipantI share the same view many of you do about the fate of RE in the next few years. However, I will venture to bet that most of you will be afraid to buy when the bottom falls out for fear of it going further.
Oh.

ParticipantCollege Degree = 4 years+
Real Estate License = 2-4 weeks (maybe less)I’m in software development – no degree needed in this field as experience is far more valuable than education… at least in the majority of cases.
Even people that appear to be idiots will amaze me quite often.. I believe that most people have the same brainpower, it’s just used in different ways.. some can’t do 5+5=10 but can tell if you’re lying to them..
I would measure a real estate agent’s career worth to be based on would be integrity*, level of effort and ability to adapt….
*I believe that integrity pays it’s dividends in the long run.. and that liars die young.

ParticipantI saw some roadside spam on 76 for a site called DumpingCondos.com

ParticipantYeah it’s too bad there aren’t many small storage companies to invest in.. it takes alot of capital, since it’s usually commercial real esate…
Investing in storage was my first priority when realizing that housing was doomed.. unforunately I wasn’t able to find anything that fit my investment style. Bought and sold some PSA for a small profit..
The company I’ve been looking at is U-Store-It.. Going to try find a long entry point to the stock here soon..Symbol: YSI
