ParticipantSeems there’s quite a few different opinions on this… If you’re not getting enough mixed messages, here’s another from a brokerage with BS in their name…
Occidental Petroleum Seen As Attractive
The 17% decline in Occidental Petroleum’s stock price since Aug. 25 makes it a good time to buy the stock, an analyst at UBS Investment Research believes.“We believe it is a particularly attractive (and contrarian) time to build a position in the stock,” wrote UBS analyst William A. Featherston in a recent report.
The brokerage house restated its “buy” recommendation for the stock and its $63 price target.

ParticipantI’ve never doubted big money’s power in the appetite industry.. how many chemists can McDonalds afford? How about Kraft?
I think MSG is one of the biggest culprits in problem eating.. Check the ingredients, almost everything that “you can’t just eat one” of has monosodium glutamate in it.. Sausage at McDonalds has MSG, ever had one? how about 2? Anyone use the ranch sauce at Jack in the Box? That has MSG too.. and many more ingredients on both of those menus.
From what I’ve read MSG is present in quite a bunch of places.
enzyme modified,
anything fermented,
anything protein fortified,
anything ultra pasteurized,
autolyzed yeast,
barley malt,
broth,
bouillon,
calcium caseinate,
carrageen,
flavoring,
natural flavoring,
gelatin,
hydrolyzed oat flour,
hydrolyzed vegetable,
olyzed protein,
malt extract maltodextrin,natural flavors,
pectin,
plant protein extract,
potassium glutamate,
sodium caseinate,
soy protein,
soy sauce,
stock,
textured protein,
whey protein,
yeast extract,
yeast food
MSG is added to many foods, particularly Chinese foods. Be aware that if a restaurant claims that there is no MSG added to the food, but they use soy sauce extensively in their cooking, you will be getting natural MSG that is in the soy sauce and can not be removed. MSG is also naturally present in bean curd typical ingredient in Chinese cooking. Today, more and more, MSG is being added to commercially-processed foods such as canned soups, sauces, luncheon meats, salad dressings, dips canned and frozen meats, foul and fish. It is the main ingredient in a famous brand flavor-enhancer that is shaken on to food to bring out the taste. We have found MSG in hot dogs, bullion cubes, chicken stock, jarred fishes and many, many other foods.
I don’t know the quality of this link.. but I’ve read most of this from other sources as well.

ParticipantI dont hear a colleague say how hot the rental market is. Over 20 calls in one day is astounding!
Caution.. sort of unrelated…..
A few months back I placed an ad on Craigslist for ‘free alcohol’ with a story of a wife who was trying to get rid of all the alcohol in the house while her husband was out on business… I placed my friends phone number in the ad – it was my attempt at a practical joke / wake up call for the alcoholism path he is headed down… Maybe it was deceptive, but whatever..
My friend called me about 30 minutes after I placed the ad and said his phone had not stopped ringing for the last bunch of minutes.. Since he was out drinking with his buddies, he told me not to remove the posting, as they were having fun talking to all the people who were calling…
He called me some 5 or 6 hours later and reported that 300+ people had called him and his phone was ringing constantly… Since this guy is sort of an exagerrator, I would guess that 150 calls would probably be more accurate… but still alot!!
So 15 calls for a place to rent VS. 150+ calls in about 6 hours for free alcohol.. maybe 15 calls on a rental is a low number? Probably more like, location doesn’t matter for alcohol, just as long as it’s going down your throat!

ParticipantI see that image on your page.. but it’s an image, do you open up Photoshop and update it on every trade? Because last time I checked it’s still 2006!
If you do, I’m sorry for guessing wrong..

ParticipantSorry you don’t like my posts Chris J.
I just thought that since piggington is about bringing the data and facts, that you should show us what your trading performance is…
It’s statements like:
It was the last pivot low prior to the highest high being made before we rolled over back down. Then price kind of moved sideways in a ledge for a week or so just above that pivot low, then broke it and went down.Which are just frighteningly generic and fake-text-generator sounding…

Chris J, are you for real? Do you have a 5 year trading performance with line by line traded purchases and dates?
Also didn’t you say 90%+ of options expire worthless? How would that happen as a zero sum game? Every dollar gained is a dollar lost, right? does money disappear, or is it actually 50%?
PS,
Zeal’s 2003 was pretty brutal!! I still think they’re good.. it’s partially up to you as the subscriber too, why would you subscribe if you complete disagreed with their view? As a subscriber I would think you are taking a stake in their opinion and research.. they certainly aren’t perfect nor do they have crystal ball.anxvariety
ParticipantPS, you said you were buying COP at $60 for a long term investment.. it’s only been a few months, I would wait a few years before evaluating.. unless you’re considering getting out. Zeal wrote an excellent speculator newsletter just the other day reaffirming their opinion on oil prices.
This stock went to $70.75 a very nice gain. There is absolutely no way that any professional stock trader would still be in that trade.
Chris, excuse me.. but Buffet is holding this stock, and he increased his position between $58 and $64 and he is still holding.. I consider him a professional trader, do you? If you said it was a good buy at $50.. why didn’t you stop by and tell everyone to sell above $70? You should know better than posting in hindsight… If you said buy at $50 sell around $70, then fine.. but it’s in the past now – pretty easy to be right in commentary, but taking credit for it is kinda far out…
Warren Buffet bought in to COP between 58 and 64.. do you think he is evaluating the invesment yet? I doubt it.. I don’t even know how anyone could be evaluating an investment on COP this soon into it.. if you’re doing that, then it’s not a true ‘long’ investment by most definitions.

ParticipantOuch. How did that Best Buy treat you today?
Probably not good.. but my puts are for next year, so I’m not going to worry about it until at least the beginning of 2007.

ParticipantThanks PS.. I’m actually getting most roasted on some OXY calls that I bought, but the two I listed are definitely adding to the uncomfort… The OXYs were actually Zeal reccomended.. I’ll say the book on these isn’t closed yet, but the story is not off to a very comfortable start!
Today is the first time that all of my stocks have been down in one day.. well there is one that is up CHB but very insignificantly..
How can that be, between all my long positions, calls and puts almost 100% of my stocks are down and the DOW is up!!! Definitely stay away from my picks for the time being! 🙂
Over the last couple of weeks I was starting to feel real comfortable with my stocks as they were rising steadily day by day with almost no pullbacks… I thought I had acheived a good balance.. The landscape has changed! No one can be right all the time! 😉
