ParticipantSpeaking of Murrieta: I was at the Chick’s Sporting Goods off of Murrieta Hot Springs road today. As I was waiting to get back on MHS to turn onto the 215 and head back to Fallbrook, I happened to look over at a car wash at the light. There had to have been at least two dozen new cars there getting washed, and nice stuff: Caddie Escalades, BMWs, Lexi, etc. I saw a Range Rover, a couple of big GMC SUVs and several nice German sports sedans in the Chick’s parking lot as well.
I look at these cars and the Stepford Wives driving them and keep thinking: HELOC. This is a middle class bedroom community fer God’s sake! Where in the hell are these people getting the money for these cars?

ParticipantYou were offering some fine wine pairings to highlight the excellent pasta choices prepared by the “Chef”.
Costa Mesa: Have your tried Orval and Chimay, speaking of Belgian beers? Being of German descent, I think that Dinkel Acker and Warsteiner are pretty good, too. Warsteiner is pretty much Budweiser in Germany, though.

Participanttemeculaguy: Having grown up in the SF/Bay Area, I will admit that I’m partial to the offerings from Napa and Sonoma. I am also opposed to anything that Parker recommends on both principle and taste.
The Costco in Temecula actually has a pretty good selection as well, Josh. Unfortunately, California wines are in the same position that French wines were in the 1980s: Overpriced and overvalued and about to be overtaken by more reasonably priced competitors (California in the case of the French wines; Chile, Argentina and Australia in the case of California wines).
Twinkie filling is the best, isn’t it? We might be veering off into “Mad Max” territory here a little, though. I’m not sure that the end of Western Civ as we know it is nigh. On the safe side, I have staked out a section of the canned goods aisle at Albertson’s just in case.

Participanttemeculaguy: I like the Coppola Claret (2004 vintage, please) with my Beefaroni.
Oh, and bring 12 gauge in either 3″ Magnum slug or 00 buckshot.
Around 7:00ish work for you?

ParticipantHoo-frickin’-ah! That’s the spirit!
What kind of shotgun? I own a Remington 870 Police and I agree completely with the toilet paper and salt sentiment. If it all goes to hell in a handbasket, I am cruising down to the local Albertson’s with my Remmie pump gun (the new American Express Card – “Don’t leave home without it!”) and stocking up on bottled water, Chef Boy-ar-dee products and TP.

ParticipantPasadena Broker: Just curious about something. As someone in the biz, what are you seeing relative to loan industry reaction from the inside?
I have friends in the banking biz, but mainly on the investment banking side and the reaction is somewhat different, and mainly focusing on the number of deals that have just gotten pulled from circulation.
How much of an impact is this credit crunch having, and how is it impacting your business directly? If your handle is correct, you are operating up in Pasadena, which has traditionally been a very solid market.
Again, just curious.
