ParticipantAecetia: I read Thucydides’ “The Peloponnesian War” once a year. It pretty much sums up all the cupidity, stupidity, mendacity and folly of history and shows how little things have changed. One of the constants in history is what men will do for women, or, more importantly for… you know. So, yeah, I do think the idea has a lot of merit. I think we could probably fundamentally change the Islamists viewpoint by just getting ’em laid once in a while. Simplistic to be sure, but effective.
The character “Animal Mother” in the movie “Full Metal Jacket” summed it up when he said: “If I’m gonna die for a word, it ain’t gonna be Freedom; it’s gonna be poontang”. Yup. I would agree.
gandalf: Pahrump, NV is in Nye County, one of the Nevada counties where prostitution is legal. The Bunny Ranch or the Chicken Ranch or one of those places is in Pahrump.

ParticipantAecetia; BTW, that was my idea for Kim Jong-il! Buy him a liquor store in Garden Grove and keep him in Jack Daniels, porn and carbohydrates for as long as his little heart would hold out.
gandalf: Thanks. It has been very interesting to hear your points of view on things, and I have to say it has provided some real food for thought and provoked some soul searching. As a former soldier, and one with friends in Iraq and Afghanistan, I worry tremendously about the fate of my country. I worry that we have sold our liberty for security, and Ben Franklin counseled us long ago on the dangers of that path. I realize we have probably all spent more time here than we should, but it has been worthwhile. Yeah, we are a handful of folks and probably unlikely to change anything the in the long run, but the dialogue has to begin somewhere. You get a few folks talking…
surveyor: You are the man! You have done yeoman’s work here and I admire the hell out of your steadfast stance and willingness to carry the fight forward. Conservative or liberal, we all share the same fears and want the same things ultimately. Thanks for participating, and thanks for reminding me what true conservatism looks like and that it is still alive and well, Dubya and his ilk be damned.

ParticipantTG: mixxalot is right. Temecula/Murrieta are just getting started and next year looks even more brutal than this one.
Plus, the Chargers look poised to go deep into the playoffs, possibly even make a good run at the Superbowl. Rivers and Gates both look good, and some of their off-season acquisitions will only make a damn good team stronger.
See? You can always work football in there!
Cheers.

Participantgandalf: Quick question for you: How do you square Obama’s position on domestic surveillance and the Patriot Act with his background as a constitutional scholar and professor?
Follow on to that question: After answering that, do you not feel that it sheds light on how he would deal with Gitmo, rendition and torture?
