ParticipantSDR: No disagreement and I remember an earlier post of yours where you laid out the Charger’s defensive weaknesses in pretty explicit detail.
If I remember correctly, don’t the Bears run a 4 – 3 versus the Charger’s 3 – 4? I might be wrong, but I keep seeing Urlacher in the mike backer spot when I close my eyes. Lance Briggs is one of the OLBs and I can’t remember the other guy’s name. Having coached D (albeit at youth football, so let’s be clear about poor comparisons), I can tell that transitioning from one scheme to another can be a bitch. That being said, Cotrell was doing a horrible job and some of those calls late in the game (how in the hell did they NOT account for Eddie Royal during the Denver game???) were atrocious.
Somewhat akin to Wade Philips taking over the Dallas defense in the last couple of weeks after that debacle against the Rams.
As my old D coach used to say: Offense sells tickets, Defense wins championships.

ParticipantTG: I think it’s possible I am actually a Giants fan trapped in a Raiders fan’s body.
Or maybe a Titans fan…
I would’ve been willing to root for the Chargers, but WTF happened? Seriously. This was like a potential Super Bowl caliber unit that just disappeared. I don’t know what it is with the Chargers, but they have a propensity for this kind of thing. At least with the Raiders, you know right from the jump that the season is gonna blow and you just deal with it in true Raider Nation style: booze, drugs and the occasional armed roobery.

ParticipantCardiff: I’m not blaming Palin solely for the decline of GOP fortunes, but I am using her as the latest and greatest manifestation of our woes.
You mention Gingrich and a lot of folks don’t remember that he was the architect of Contract with America, which was a damn good program and he did an excellent job of articulating the core conservative values that that program represented.
As Lord Acton said: “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely”. Well, we’ve seen that writ large in the last eight years and the last vestiges of Goldwater Republicanism have been swept away by a profligacy and stupidity unparalleled in our party’s history. Socialism came to America courtesy of the GOP – the very party that was supposedly there to fight it to the death.
We need to spend some time in the wilderness and rediscover those things that made the GOP the standard bearer of this country.
If we’re being honest, the Dems haven’t had an original idea since LBJ’s Great Society program and the leftist junta that drives that engine is going to swamp this country with feel good PC claptrap for the next four (or, God forbid, eight) years. Just enough time for us to get our shit together and put us back on the true path.
