ParticipantThere are some very valid points raised here, and as you can see by the reaction it has provoked, some have clearly hit their mark. Good for you for having the courage of your convictions. However, and there has to be a ‘however’, there is something in what you say that is relevant and symptomatic of many (if not all) places, and is endemic to the human condition. Rather than focus on San Diego, which for all it’s shortcomings has some good points as well, direct your attentions to the wider picture; urbanization, media, greed, values etc and de-personalize or detach yourself from those thoughts, so they don’t drag you down with them. You are clearly sensitive to things that others may not be able to share, but don’t be discouraged, as your sense of isolation may be part of who you are, so seek it out.

Participant
So I’m watching it again. They have a clip of Bush saying, “The economy is strong and getting stronger.” I swear, if you watch it, you can tell he can barely, but barely keep a straight face while saying it. It almost looks like he’s holding back a laugh and worried about the veracity of what he was saying, as if he was going to be stricken down by lightening for that lie.
This American Life – Giant Pool of Money Did a great radio broadcast of this real estate/banking mess, also.
If you have ever watched George Freidman, the slightly loopy political science author, there is an uncanny similarity in facial expressions; that restrained chortle, that follows an idea so palpable we all should have grasped it. Made me wonder whether this man was Bush’s guru.

Participant
LOL, I loved the dumb bitch Mayor of Narvik, who borrowed money against the town’s hydro plant to buy CDO’s, and now they’re broke. The fool’s bandaged finger wobbles back to the fire.
Maybe, but not half as dumb as the skipper of a much larger ship a bit further down stream.
