kewp
ParticipantI think kewp is right on, I wish I had his (assuming kewp is male) discipline.
It can be learned (I wasn’t always this way, for sure!). I’ll comment that once you make the change it becomes pretty sticky; I can’t imagine ever going back to my old ways.
And yeah, I’m a dude! π
Does anyone here think WaMu will fail within the next 90 days?
Who knows; even I’m amazed at how fast things are deteriorating. Can’t hurt to err on the side of caution.
Is there an alternative to opening up seven 100k savings accounts? Maybe buy 700k of bonds? Are there banks that insure accounts up to a million?

ParticipantHusband plans to be at WaMu when they open tomorrow morning. It turns out there is only $400K in the WaMu account and the rest is in a local credit union and another bank (Rabo). So he is going to split the $300 from WaMu into $150K chunks for BofA and Wells.
It sucks because it will cause more changes to the final tax reconciliation for the estate (more account numbers, more 1099s) but obviously that little hassle is nothing compared to $300K vanishing into thin air (actually, thick, smoky air here in the Sacramento Valley).

ParticipantTruth is, nobody has a clue how to solve the problem.
I do!
Dissolve the GSE’s, let all the FB’s declare bankruptcy and above all…
LET THE BANKS FAIL!
The Fed will probably have to raise interest rates in the process, but personally I think thats a good thing.
There are enough *smart* lenders and borrowers out there to restore sanity to the system. Destroying the dollar to try and bail out the dumbest of speculators strikes me as insane.
