Something that’s always chapped my hindquarters is the fact that many former bank-tellers and movie-rental store clerks (aka Realtors) have been hanging themselves out to be “investment” specialists, when in fact they are truly just commissioned salespeople. As a former NASD-licensed “investment” professional (Series 7 and 65) even I couldn’t technically call myself an “investment” specialist, rather a registered representative. When the proverbial dog-doo hits the fan, how can we ensure that these so-called professionals are forced to eat the same sh*T that they’ve been feeding us all along? Or am I the only one who believes that Realtors are as useless as my “name” suggests?
The financial industry is filled with salespeople. In my opinion, it’s always buyer beware with salespeople. They shouldn’t be held accountable if they are able to sell you a bad investment. That being said, I’m fond of saying, “I hate salespeople.”
Each individual has to do his/her own homework, and be skeptical and realistic about what is really motivating anyone selling you anything.
